   Chapter 14

If my dream ever came true I would probably isolate myself in a room alone with nothing but my horrible thoughts, I wouldn't be able to bear the world if I didnt have Maine, she understood me like no one else.  The days pased and Maine recovered surprisingly quickly.

Then the day she set off, we figured out where Kayan and Morcos had their headquarters and Maine was ready.  Physically anyway.

She stood in front of the taxi ready to take her to the mountains in New Hampshire,  she hugged Uncle Roy, "Thanks for taking care of us," He smiled, she walked to Carrie, "Thank you for helping me with the knife you saved my life," I could tell Maine was on the verge of tears.

   "My pleasure," Carrie said.

She turned to Jen, "Thanks for being a great friend," she said hugging her.  She turned to me and hugged me, "Thanks for always being there for me, even when the world wasn't," She started to softly cry.

"Anything for my best friend," I was crying softly now too.

She turned to Jake and shoved him playfully, "You know I'm still available," He smiled and they hugged, "Think about it," Maine said with a wink,  Jake laughed.

Maine hopped in the taxi and drove away.

"I'll be right back," I said my voice breaking up, I just needed to be alone to cry. I didn't want her to go, just the thought that she might not come back made the tears flow like a waterfall.

The days turned to weeks and no sign from Maine.

Four weeks after she left we all sat around the table, "Maine promised she would send some sign she was safe and the plan was working," I said, "So far we got nothing."

Jen looked down, "I try not to think about it."

"I vote we go help her," I said.

"Serena this is a job she needs to do on her own," Carrie said.

"I came up with the plan, can't we help her?" I protested.

"I think so," Uncle Roy said.

   Carrie glared at him.

"I'm with Serena," Uncle Roy said, "If it were you would you want your friends to save you?"

Carrie sighed, "Yes, we can leave in two days."

"Thank you, I just can't bear the thought of not knowing if she's dead or alive," I said.

Over the next day we prepared for the worst.   Two days later we got a taxi and drove to New Hampshire, the taxi dropped us off at a ski resort, we walked around for a little then I saw a flash of gold, I whirled around and it was a gold ski pole, "Guys check this out!" I yelled.

   "What is it?" Jen asked.

"A ski pole," I replied picking it up.

"She passed through here," Carrie said, turning her head, "Look."

There was a path of gold sticks and leaves weaving up the mountain.

   "Lets go," I said.

We followed the path until it just stopped, we were in a clearing, something was odd about it though, the last gold leaf we stood over was in the center of a stone circle.  I walked to one of the stones it was roughly seven feet tall, and there were nine of them in a circle, I walked back to the center, "This is very odd," I said, "What is it?"
