A muffled conversation woke me up. My eyelids are too heavy, so I keep them closed and listen instead. "Dois-je la réveiller pour l'école? [Do you want me to wake y/n up for school?]

It was Daniel's voice. "Réveillez pas la. Imaginez, ses parents ont abusé d'elle. Tu veux qu'elle retourne dans une maison abusive, Daniel? [Let her rest. Imagine her parents did abuse her. Do you want her to go back to an abusive house, Daniel?]"

"Non, Mais papa-- [No, but dad--]"

"On va la rester ici. Je suis sûr qu'elle nous expliquera ce qui s'est passé. [Let's keep her here. I'm sure she'll explain what happened.]"

"Bonne journée à l'école. [Have a nice day at school.]"

"Oui, Papa. Toi aussi. [Yes, dad. You too.]"

Not long after, I hear a door closing. With difficulty, I open my eyes and slowly sit up. I moved my jaw: realising my mouth was dry as a desert. I rub my eyes before skimming through Daniel's room: posters of Molly Ringwald hung everywhere, along with some more of Journey and foreigner. There was also a guitar hanging on the wall. I hop off the wooden bed and wander up towards Daniel's drawer. It was covered with family pictures, making me smile.

My eyes widen as I notice someone familiar in the picture: Hélène. Are they family? I take one of the frames and walk back to the bed. This picture had all of them on it. They were standing in front of a big house: the two siblings and the two parents. Where would Hélène and her mother be?

I suddenly hear Daniel's father laughing behind the door, making me look up. "I have some confidential information you'd like to hear, yes." I put down the picture and tried to eavesdrop on the conversation. "You better give me the million dollars as you promised." Silence remains for a while before Daniel's father begins to speak anew: "The girl you've been looking for-- I found her."

Abrupt paralysation overwhelms me as my eyes get fixated on the door. "Yeah, no problem. The girl has no idea what's going on. I will bring her as soon as possible." Goosebumps expand all over my body. No way. "Of course, always pleasure doing business with you, Doctor Brenner." The fight-or-flight procedure starts gushing through my veins as my heart rate accelerates. Teardrops start blurring my vision due to sudden fear.

Footsteps approach along with the sound of squeaking planks. My eyes dash through the bedroom, hopelessly looking for a hiding spot. I get up from the bed: the frame tumbles onto the floor, causing the shattered glass to expand all over the carpet. I haul up towards the wardrobe, open it ere getting into it.

Just as I close the door, the bedroom door sways open. I hold my breath and slam my hand before my mouth and nose. Complete dusk swallows my surroundings, causing distress to increase even more.

11:02 am, Dustin.

I throw a folded ball of paper toward Mike. It hits his head, causing him to snap his head at me. I gesture at him to read it, then show it to the others. He rolls his eyes at me and continues to pay attention to the lesson. "Damnit-" I mutter. "Excuse me?" Miss Lawson asked. The whole class turns their attention toward me. I put up a big smile, stating that nothing was wrong. "It's probably his spasm talking," Troy mentioned, resulting in a few people laughing. "Troy!" Miss Lawson spoke in disbelief.
