When the boys were about sixteen, their mother fell ill. No one could figure out what sickness she had. Doctors from many lands were called to help her. She had seemingly randomly fallen one day, and no cause had been found. Each doctor knew of no cause and no help. They all said the same thing.

"She will die in about a month."

Each time, the words were a weight pressing down on the family's hearts.

A month passed, and the queen did not die. She was getting worse, though. A week later, she passed out, and she lost her heartbeat a day after.

The king was devastated. He tore anything in sight at the castle. He cried unceasingly. He did not handle it well.

And neither did the boys, though they did take it better than their father.

The whole kingdom mourned for a year.

While this would have driven a wedge in some families, the king only grew closer to his children, holding onto what little family he had left.

Harold did not change much. He continued his work in the village.

Phillip continued his in the meetings.
