Chapter 1: A Rescue For Some, But Not For All

A/N: If you are coming from the first or second book in this trilogy, I need to let you know that this book has not been rewritten yet. I'll leave this old version up until further notice, and I apologize for my cringe middle school writing. :)

(Newt's POV)

What could be taking that train so bloody long? I think to myself as I wait for WICKED's train to pass by. It has been six months since Y/N and Minho had gotten taken, every time we tried to rescue them it always failed. But I had a good feeling about today.

I'm suddenly interrupted from my thoughts when the ground starts to rumble, and soon after the sound of a train fills the air. As it gets louder, and louder, I become more anxious. Today will be the day we get them back, today will be the day I get Y/N back. I look back to the other boys we had brought with us to help, they gave me a nod letting me know they were prepared and ready. I look back towards the tracks and finally see the train coming, running on top of the train cars are Tommy and Vince.

I watch the other side of the train to make sure no guards came up, but of course they did. Tommy and Vince jump down between cars and while Vince tries to separate the cars, Tommy gets onto the other one and shoots at the WICKED guards from below. I take this time to check I have everything ready, then I put on my pack and wait for the whistle.

After what seemed like hours but was only for just a few seconds, I hear the whistle. I get up behind my rock and look, the train cars were separated. "Alright come on!" I yell telling the two other boys to follow.

I run to the car as Tommy and Vince bang on the cars walls listening for Minho or Y/N, Tommy goes onto the other side of the car where I can't see him. But once I reach him he yells, "this one!" I kneel down to separate the car with it's hold. When sparks begin to fly right in front of me, I remember her and I in the glade, she's my motivation.

"Newt how you doing?" I hear Tommy yell from the top of the car. "Don't rush me." I say back not even looking at him, but then I hear gunshots and look to see WICKED guards rushing to us. I then begin to work a little faster.

I was about to finish until a bullet went flying in front of my face, the WICKED guards were way closer. Vince comes down and protects me the best he could, I keep working trying to block out everything that's happening. And luckily I'm able to finish before anything bad happens, I climb up the ladder on the car and lay down next to Tommy to help him shoot.

The guards get closer, and closer, until the sound of a berg fills the air. The WICKED guards stop shooting thinking there job is done now, but they're so wrong. The berg stops right above the car we're on, a hatch on the bottom opens up revealing Frypan, Brenda, and Harriet. A hook then lowers out of the hatch and down to us, that's when the WICKED guards found out what was going on. I shoot at them while also keeping an eye on Tommy and the hook, once the hook is close enough I grab it to help Tommy attach it to the car. "OKAY GO!" Tommy shouts, before I could even think the car is lifted off the ground and into the air. I notice Vince isn't up here, "Vince come on!" I hear Tommy yell from behind me, I turn to him and see Tommy looking over the edge to the ground.

Before I could help Vince is up on the top of the car with the rest of us, I let out a sigh of relief as the berg takes us away. We all smile knowing that what we've been after for six months, we finally have. I look towards the two boys that we had brought with us, they seem to have guilt on their faces. What did they do?

The berg safely lands the train car onto the ground at the new right arm, I help Tommy unhook the hook from the berg before it takes off. I then climb down the ladder and onto the ground, Tommy, the two boys, and Vince, follow after. I watch Vince walk away and come back with something to unlock the door. I fix my hair so that Y/N can see the best of me, and before I know it the door is unlocked. Harriet had joined us since Sonya and Aris got taken too.

Once Tommy walks in I follow after scanning every face in the car, they all look so scared. My heart begins to beat faster when I don't see Y/N or Minho, I stop behind Tommy as he turns to look at me, I then realize we reached the end of the car. "They're not here." Tommy says staring right into my eyes, I look around one more time and found out that Aris and Sonya were here, but still no Y/N or Minho. "Your right, they're not here." I say back to Tommy.

And that's when it starts to sink in. Anger, sadness, disappointment, and loneliness. I rush out of the car and head towards the building where we sleep, I sit outside and just cry. Today was supposed to be the day, today was supposed to be the day we got them back. The day I got Y/N back. I miss her so much. Her smile, her flowing H/C hair, her E/C eyes, her body, her personality, and everything about her.

It has been most likely an hour, Vince already greeted the newcomers and everyone was getting settled. I hear footsteps walk up to me and see Harriet, "Newt come on. Aris is talking." I immediately get up and follow after her, what if Aris or Sonya knows why Y/N and Minho aren't here?

When we reach the building they're keeping Aris and Sonya, a rush of panic comes over me. Aris, he looks horrible, he has an open scar on his face, he has dark bags under his eyes, and looks like he hasn't ate much. What could they be doing to Y/N?

Aris and Tommy begin a conversation, I just listen. I can't escape the thought of something bad happening to Y/N. Until, "do you know what train they were on?" I hear Tommy ask Aris, I look to the both of them, Aris lets out a huge sigh. "I'm sorry Thomas, but they were on the same car."

I can't help myself, I storm out of the room once again. I can't believe this, after six bloody months of trying to rescue them we failed once again. Today was supposed to be the day! I will get her back, and no one is going to stop me. I don't care if I get infected or hurt, I will get her back.
