"Where the hell have you been?" my mother asks in a stern tone.

"The concert thing ran late so I stayed at Alice's house," I lie.

"Who was that? The guy who drove you home," my dad raises his eyebrows.

"Just a friend that picked me up from Alice's," I lie again.

"You are not a very good liar, young lady. You are grounded for a week. That means no homecoming," my mom almost shouts.

"No! You can't do that. I had plans with people!"

"Too bad. You'll have to cancel. No leaving the house for the next week. Also, no phone," she says and takes my phone out of my hand. My parents storm out of my bedroom.

I scream into my pillow as soon as they close the door. This is so stupid. I hate them. I spend the rest of the weekend listening to music in my bedroom and not coming out except for food.

Monday morning rolled around and I got ready like normal, but my parents were already gone for work when I came downstairs. I found my brother eating breakfast in the kitchen when I come down.

"Morning," he greets.

"Leave me alone. I'm still mad at you and the fact that I'm grounded doesn't help my attitude," I snap at Alex.

"I'd say you're Little Miss Sunshine this morning," he says sarcastically and walks out.

A knocking sounds on the door and I answer it to find Michael. I hug him before he has the chance to say anything.

"Where have you been all weekend?" he asks when I pull away.

"My parents caught me sneaking in and took my phone. They also grounded me from homecoming."

"Okay, good. I... I mean not good. Just good because I thought you were mad at me or something," he fumbles with his words.

"I'm going to figure something out, though. I will sneak out if I have to."

We drive towards the school and Michael holds my hand the whole way there. It's like not talking to or seeing me for a little while made him miss me that much more.

We walk in and Alice almost attacks me.

"Why haven't you texted me back? This is huge!"

"My phone got taken away. Long story, what's going on?" I ask.

"I'm gonna head to class," Michael says and kisses my head before walking away.

"Luke asked me out! We aren't dating or anything, but he asked me to homecoming!"

"Congrats! I wish I could be there to see how it goes."

"Why won't you be there?" she looks hurt.

"I got caught sneaking in," I answer.

"Sneaking in from where?"

"Michael's house," I say guiltily. "But I need to find Ashton. He asked me to homecoming and I have to tell him I'm not even going."

"Woah, woah, woah! I thought you had a thing with Michael. What has been going on with you?" Alice is always so interested in gossip, but I know that she'll never tell anyone so I can trust her.
