I'm not a fan of action, too, so hang on tight. Romance is coming!

"Okay, so we have no idea who any of the Alphas are, but Newt might be one of them. If we get one Alpha, we get every single Maverick. So... Y/N, I need you to look back to when Newt was still Isaac..."

"I'd be more than happy to," you interrupted. The idea of Isaac was what kept you going.

"...and see if there was some unusual behavior that might hint at him being an Alpha."

"Isaac had a safe in his office," you said easily, revisiting the day you found out about it.

"What's in there?" you motioned to the safe.

Isaac used a code to open the safe, and showed it to you. "Mostly papers and medicine," he answered.

"Can I see them?" you asked.

"Oh, love, why waste time on my doodles and experiments—" he trapped you in a wall with his arms, "—when we can spend all that time on kissing?"

"So you think he was secretive?" Gally asked, looking at Newt all this time.

"Yeah. I asked several times to see the stuff but he'd distract me." Isaac's distractions are very effective, you thought.

"What else?"

"This isn't about Isaac, but about April. One of his assistants at the Psych labs. She had a weird face when I showed her one of Isaac's letters."

"She didn't tell you why she had the weird face?" Gally asked.

You glanced at Newt, who had a guilty face. "Newt put me at knifepoint so he could sneak me out. I didn't get to talk to her."

"April... I think I remember her. Code girl?"

"What?"

"We called her code girl because she's good at patterns and codes."

"There must be a code in your letter."

"Okay, well, listen," Gally said, "WICKED wants you guys, but they're still not sure why. They only know that you're different."

You nodded, "that's what Newt told me."

"We need to find out what's so special about you before they do." Gally looked at his men, "We need to call all the Alphas together."

"Why?" Newt asked.

"The Alphas are the true brains of the group," Gally said. "they might be able to perform procedures on both of you to see what's up."

"Okay," you said. "isn't there like, protocol for emergencies? Something that'll call them all together?"

"No," Gally said, "as I said, there aren't any—"

"Actually," one of the guys in black piped up, "there is a protocol. I'm the protocol."

"What?" Gally said, "don't be ridiculous."

"I'm not kidding. I wasn't supposed to tell anyone, but you said this is urgent." the guy stepped towards you and Newt. "My name is Keith. I'm a brother of one of the Alphas."

"Okay... you know where he is?"

"Last I checked, he was at Marcus' place," he said. "I just wanna warn you. I don't know if he looks the same anymore, or if he goes by the same name. They change their identities all the time. It's for safety purposes, to stay hidden. All the Alphas do this, except for those who are undercover."

"Okay. We're going to Marcus', then," you said.

----

"How do we know if we're talking to your brother or not?" Newt asked.

"Good question. I don't."

"What the hell are we doing, then?" you demanded.

"I guess... I guess I'm going to hint at stuff only we'd know. I'll just wing it," Keith said. "just trust me."

You approached a group of men by the entrance, much like the way you did when you first stopped by.

"You here for the party?" a woman asked from behind you.

"Uh... no. We're here for Marcus."

"I am he," a large man, indeed Marcus, came into view. He looked at you and Newt. "You two again. Where are your friends?"

You stayed silent. So did Newt.

"We were just wondering if you'd be kind enough to give me some warm water?" Keith asked with a small voice. "It has to be warm water because cold water gives me headaches for days. I think it's genetic because my brother is the same."

Understanding dawned on Marcus' face. "Come with me, brother."

Marcus led you through a few blocks, and no one dared to talk. Once you were inside what looked like his house, Marcus spoke: "We are alone. No one can hear us." then he faced Keith. "You're nearly taller than me now, Keith."

"I knew it was you the moment I saw you," Keith wrapped an arm around Marcus embracing him.

"Wait..." Gally spoke up for the first time since you left the Sanctuary. "Marcus is an Alpha?"

"One of the very first," Marcus nodded.

Silence.

Marcus now had a grave look on his face, looking at Keith. "I told you to never come to me unless it's life or death. What's going on?"

Keith looked at you and Newt. "I think WICKED thinks they're the cure."

I actually wrote this a year ago, not sure why I didn't post it... sorry! Anyway, I think I'm back. Any requests/guesses as to what will happen?

Next chapter, we pay Janson and Paige a visit...
