Veronica hadn't spoken to him for days, and that made him nervous. The worst thing was that she didn't show the same coldness to his brother. At first, Alex disregarded his wife's childish technique, but as the days went by, he had less patience.
Carlos used to cheer him up by recounting an anecdote at the office, but lately, nothing helped him stop thinking about Veronica. That morning, while he was preparing tea and chatting with Carlos, Alvaro entered the executive kitchen, smiling and preparing himself for one of his jokes. Like two robots, Alex and Carlos stopped talking as soon as they saw him enter.
"No, please, I don't want to interrupt," said Alvaro, at the sudden silence of his colleagues. "Alex, how are you?"
"Sorry?" responded Alex to the strange question.
"I mean, with everything that happened at home. Veronica told me."
Carlos noticed Alex's tension almost instantly. He advanced a few steps, but Carlos stopped him. He was so angry that he completely forgot he was at work. Alvaro stepped back a few steps, as he stared at the anger that was reflected in his colleague's eyes. But he still decided to nail his feet to the floor and lift his chin at his threat, taking advantage of Carlos's interruption and safeguarding himself in the place where they were. He then provoked Alex with an ironic smile.
Fortunately for Carlos, Luis appeared and found the tense situation almost at its peak. Guessing what was happening, he hurried to ask Alex to leave the place, but not without congratulating Alvaro for his latest project.

He didn't know exactly what Veronica had told him or how intimate the matter was that she had discussed with him. But jealousy was burning inside him. He had no idea how he could spend all day without going to Alvaro's office and busting his face.
"Calm down," Carlos told him, once they reached his office.
"How do you expect me to do it with that bastard touching my balls?"
"Well, never mind. If you asked your wife for a divorce, you'll have to get used to her having confidence with other men."
"But we're still married and still... Not with that rat."
"Who cares? No? I mean, if the one you want is Elisa," said Carlos, shrugging his shoulders.
"She's my wife, and what do you know whether I love her or not? I married her, didn't I?"
"Yes, but to get closer to the other one."
"It doesn't matter! She's mine!"
"Uncle, Quixote saw monsters where the world saw mills. I don't know what you see, but only you see it."
Alex only thought about going back and violently extorting any information that Veronica could have told Alvaro. Unaware of all the feelings that the man felt at that moment, Jose entered the office and informed him that Luis asked to see him in his office.
When he entered his boss's office, Luis invited him to sit in front of his desk. The scene that Luis had witnessed hadn't pleased him at all, and he was going to take a chance to nip this behavior in the bud. Although he knew how difficult Alvaro could become, Alex wasn't the same lately.
"I knew that this whole thing wouldn't end well."
"I don't know what you mean," replied Alex, still annoyed by what had just happened.
"I don't know how you carry the load of your... past love, but it's beginning to affect you in other aspects of your life."
"And that matters to you because?"
