Things with Elisa went slower than expected. For Alex, who was used to getting everything he wanted at a record pace, it was difficult to accept that she hadn't succumbed to his requests by now. What was stopping her so much?
He was turning himself around on the king-sized bed in his room. The sun was out, but he didn't feel like getting up. He didn't understand Elisa's stubbornness when she refused the opportunity of starting a relationship with him again. The fact that she didn't appreciate his struggle to unite them upset him more than he was willing to accept. To him, it was more than clear that this kind of a thing was what turned women romantically mad. He would have to strive harder, but the end was already decided.
There was a thunderous noise at the door. After the scare, Alex realized that just one person could knock on the house door in that sick way.
"Alex! Are you awake?"
"Now I am," he whispered. "What do you want?"
Diego entered the room and threw himself on his brother's bed, and Alex was clearly annoyed by the intrusion. He had woken up in a bad mood, and his brother didn't make things easier.
"You might ask what I am doing here."
"Absolutely," he answered quickly.
"Don't get impatient, I'll tell you."
"I don't want to know it."
"Your brother just got a call from the Brave Dorian offices with an offer of the apprenticeship in their offices next year. After my master's degree, I will rub shoulders with the royalty of the investment world. Impressed?"
"The truth is yes," he admitted. "It's not easy getting in there. From time to time, we work with them, and their level is almost like ours."
"You see, your brother is not as useless as you thought."
"How did you get it?"
"Well... I think that aside from my academic grades, they must have been impressed by the incredible personal report I made of myself. I didn't leave out anything at all."
"You let them understand that I am your brother."
"Yes!"
Sometimes, Alex complained about having made things too easy for his brother, but remembering all that he lacked at the same age made him wipe out any negative thoughts on the subject. Luckily, disregarding how crazy his brother could be, Alex was proud of the man he was becoming. In spite of everything, he had always been a good boy and almost never got into trouble.
While he was taking a shower, the telephone rang. This time, it was the maid who burst into the room, asking him to pick up the phone. It was a Saturday. At that time of the morning, he was usually in the office. But with everything that had been happening between Elisa and him, he had decided to take the day off.
On the other side of the phone, he heard Carlos' familiar voice, one of the fortunate few who shared the same floor with him in Luis's office. Carlos wasn't as intelligent as he was, but he managed to get to the top by working hard and showing his loyalty to Alex. He backed him up against the board constantly. Sincere friendships were hard to find in the financial world, and Carlos was a "white blackbird" and was much appreciated by financiers.
"Where are you?"
"At home. What's up?"
"I've been calling you all day long."
"I turned off the phone. I wanted to rest. What's going on?"
"Mr. Monte Negro has called for an urgent meeting in his office. Guess who has offered himself to go in your absence."
