Alex woke up, drenched in his own cold sweat. He hadn't slept all weekend. As much as he tried, he dreamed over and over again about the same thing: he was venting out all his sexual frustration that he was suffering at that moment over her delicate body. He made love to her with such desperation that waking up seemed like the beginning of the real nightmare. He had to end it all.

Breaking the engagement was something he hadn't planned. It was perfect, but now, he will have to find another way to avoid staying far from Elisa. What had happened in the bathroom was a clear confirmation of the reasons that forced him to carry all this out. Elisa would have to give up and accept reality. His actions seemed more justified when he saw in person who she had as her husband. That man couldn't be his rival. He would think of another way to stay close to her.

Alex couldn't sleep at all, so he thanked the stack of papers Jose had prepared for starting the day. Work awoke him, so in theory, that was good. Upon his arrival, he had noticed the curious gaze of all those who passed by him. He made a quick connection and guessed that it was all surely due to the news of his engagement with Veronica. What they didn't know was that it had been called off.

While his head was in the paperwork, the office door opened and Alvaro entered, without waiting for an invitation. Behind him came the financier's personal assistant who was clearly angry and ready to ask for explanations for the audacity.

"I only came to congratulate our friend," he said, pointing at Alex.

"It's all right, Jose. You can leave us."

Jose walked away with a warning look fixed on Alvaro, who sat down ignoring that look.

"You were saying."

"I was surprised by the news. I didn't think you would dare that much."

"What? And measure your words before you speak."

"Of course, I'll measure them. You screwed that man's daughter, so you can keep climbing up the ladder. Sorry, by 'measure your words', you meant to ask me to tell the truth, right?" said Alvaro.

"Anything else?" said Alex, smiling as he tried to placate the urge he had to get up and break every bone in his body. His colleague had come in to mess with him before, but this time, the rage was such that he felt capable of throwing the table at him.

Nevertheless, he didn't have time for such nonsense. He should be looking for ideas to stay close to Elisa instead of listening to that inept man's idiocies. At one point, during Alvaro's insults, Alex could hear, "I don't understand what Veronica has seen in you." Then, he realized Alvaro knew her. Therefore, all that frustration. He could have told him that the engagement was canceled, but then, he wouldn't be Alejandro Baeza.

"I understand you, Alvaro," he said, interrupting the seemingly endless monologue. "I have the position of your life, and it is certain they will make me partner long before you. I also have a social position that you haven't reached, despite your parents' fortune or surname. And now, out of nowhere, I am to marry a beauty like Veronica."

"Deceived... for sure," said Alvaro hesitating.

"Does it seem to you that I need to deceive women?"

"No matter how much you climb, don't try to make us forget that you're nothing more than a fisherman from a small village. This world is too large for you. Why don't you go back to your thing and leave us alone?"

"The only world that exists, Alvaro, is my world," he said, rising slowly, "and the only important thing about that world is what role you have in it for me. Now, get out of my fucking office and don't enter it again without permission."
