As I stood up from the sofa to go to the bedroom, I stumbled over something, causing me to fall flat on my face. Yes, just my luck right? I groaned and got up again, trying to find the reason for my painful fall. Just next to my feet lay a small black bag. It was not mine – of course – so it had to be Camille’s. I picked it up and wondered if I could still catch up with her.

I quickly ran out of my room  – with my keys in my pocket of course – and took the elevator down. In the lobby I asked Carol which way Camille went. She told me the brunette went left when she exited the hotel. And that’s exactly what I did too.

When I was outside, I looked around searching for her. Unfortunately, I didn’t see her anywhere. Guessing she was probably home already, I turned around and started walking back in the direction of the hotel. I decided I’d stop by the coffee shop tomorrow to return her belongings, since texting wouldn’t help as her phone was still in the bag.

But then I noticed a group of guys a little further down the street, making a lot of noise. I wondered what was going on there but then I saw a small figure standing in the middle, surrounded by those scary looking men. I didn’t take me long to realize it was Camille and that she was in grave danger. Without even thinking about what I was going to do, my feet started walking in their direction. I suddenly was no longer tired and I felt the adrenaline in my body rise.

“Leave her the fuck alone!” I shouted, arriving at where they were standing. The men immediately looked up, wondering who had disturbed them in their awful game with an innocent girl. I quickly glanced over at Camille, who wasn’t moving and didn’t seem to notice I was here.

“And you are?” some guy with a scar said. He seemed the leader of the group and was still holding Camille.

“The one who’s going to take that girl away from you now.” I said, trying to seem confident. They all just started laughing in my face. To be honest, I would too. I mean, what could I do against five-six men? It didn’t seem like they were going to let Camille go just like that and if this would lead to a fight, I would be outnumbered. I figured I’d just keep them talking to get them distracted so Camille could run away, but she just kept standing there and apparently the group of men were getting impatient already as I felt a blow against my left cheek. A taste of metal filled my mouth. Damn, that actually hurt.

Without thinking, I punched the man back. Hard. He obviously didn’t expect this as he stumbeled backwards, not looking too happy. He let out a loud groan and approached me again, loosening Camille. Just before I felt another punch, I watched her fall to the ground. Fortunately, the men had taken their attention off of her. But that meant they had put their focus on me now. Fuck.

Before hell broke loose, a shrill shriek came from behind us. I saw a terrified Carol standing there and I didn’t hesitate to yell that she had to call the police immediately.

Scarman was getting ready again to take out his anger out on me but one of the others stopped him. “The fucking police is coming. I ain’t gonna sit in prison again.” he shouted, trying to get through his leader. The latter groaned again, obviously frustrated that he wouldn’t be having his way tonight. “Fine.” he said, “we’ll try to find another beauty when there isn’t some stupid kid around.” I wasn’t even offended by his words, just disgusted knowing he’d do this again. Then he pointed a finger at me. “You,” he said through gritted teeth, “are very lucky.” He spit on the ground next to me. “Now go fucking save your damsel in distress and you better watch out because if I run into you again I won’t hesitate to finish this.” And with these last words they all ran away.
