ethan made his way to your decently sized apartment, just the right size for you and your 4 year old daughter. his eyes briefly scanned every door number he passed, getting closer and closer to apartment 305.

once he found it, he stood right in front of it. he was exceptionally nervous to see you and his daughter after 3 years of being in prison. he easily became uneasy thinking of your reaction, since his appearance was unexpected.  you'd never came to visit him, making him think you completely hated him.

ethan took in a large breath, shakily letting it out before tapping his knuckles on the chilly metal of the apartment door. after a few seconds from no answer, he worried you wouldn't open up, or maybe you weren't home.

"i'm coming!" he heard your small voice he hadn't heard in so long, his heart beat increasing at the speed of light. the locks of the door being undone was heard, and the door swiftly opened, a gust of air slapping ethan's body and raising the hairs on his skin.

it took a moment for you to recognize the man that you hadn't seen in forever. his hair had grown out, wings curling at the sides. he hadn't shaved his face in what looked like days, but you quickly remembered his hair grows fast. his boyish demeanor he once had was now replaced by a mans, especially with his face more full. his eyes were much more dark than before, and his lips much more pink and plump.

your heart felt like a bullet had gone straight through it. you thought ethan he had left your life for good three years ago. tears filled your eyes, making ethan's much brawnier figure go slightly blurred.

your hand, that gripped the door so tightly, flung the door closed, trying to shut it on his face. his arm stopped it from closing, letting himself wedge his body in, so he was standing in front of you.

"i'm sorry-"

"no!"

he immediately began to plead, asking for the forgiveness that he forgot to ask for three years ago. you put your hands on your head, trying to let yourself think, trying to decide if you should call the cops or let him stay. your eyes looked at his, they were full of guilt and regret.

"how are you here right now? you weren't supposed to get out yet, a-and who told you where we live?" you looked at the clock on the oven, seeing the time read 7:30 pm, why so late in the evening?

"they let me out early, i had good behavior, and i'm totally clean. grayson told me, after hours and hours of begging. i-i just want to talk to you, maybe see our daughter?"

he shrugged his shoulders, looking down at his feet in shame.

"she is not your daughter," you mumbled.

"excuse me?"

"she is not your daughter. she might have your blood, but you are no father to her. the first year of her life you couldn't stay away from the drugs. and you kept saying you would stop, but you wouldn't. she doesn't know about you, and she shouldn't. you should leave." you crossed your arms, watching his emotions change from sad, to livid and back to sad.

"i-i know, but i'm here to make it right. i want to be the father that i wasn't for the first four years of her life. i want to be there for her until the day that i'm six feet under, i want to make it up to her. she means everything to me, and so do you," he took a step forward to you, hesitantly reaching his hand out to touch your cheek, but bringing it back to his side. "i know i treated you like shit, but i love you, i really do. i want to have a family with you." a tear cascaded down your face, and ethan forgot his boundaries, reaching his hand up to wipe it away, looking down at your face.

you wanted to give in to him-being a single mother was so hard. you never stopped loving ethan, and you never stopping thinking about him. but you knew he would return to his old habits, he always did.

"n-no i can't. i already said you need to lea-"

"mommy?" you quickly stepped back from ethan's trance, viciously wiping your tears before walking over to where your daughter stood at the end of the hallway, watching the two of you with curiosity covering her face.

"baby, go back to your room, i'll be right there for your bath." ethan watched the two of you converse. you were crouched down in front of your daughter, gently rubbing her shoulders. she was the spitting image of you, still having a few of ethan's features here and there, but mainly yours.

ethan felt like he couldn't move. he wanted more than anything to run to her and scoop her up in his arms, and never let her go. the little girl looked at ethan one last time, before slowly trudging down the narrow hallway to her room.

"she's beautiful, just like you." you watched her close her door, hearing ethan's words and letting them sink in, before pushing them back out.

"it's getting late, and she needs a bath,"

"i'm not leaving." ethan rushes to get the words out, watching your face turn red with rage.

"i'm not leaving until i get to help you put her to bed."

"yes you are, or i'm calling the cops and you're going back to jail." you walked towards him, not intimidated by his much bigger body. "i don't want to see you again, ever."

with that, you pushed his chest, making him back up until he was back in the hallway. you slammed the door on his face, turning around and placing you back against the door, letting out a deep sigh and sliding down. you let the tears take over your face, letting them fall without meaning.

outside, ethan stood stunned. sobs left his mouth, his hands gripping onto his hair. he punched the door as hard as he could, startling you from the other side.

he pulled out his phone, typing in the number he knew too well. he wished he forgot it, but in moments like this, he was also glad he didn't.

he put the phone to his ear, listening to the words that flowed through his ears, including an address, and the amount of grams his money could buy.

i'm so sorry if you had parents like this, it's terrible to see that some parents put drugs above their children.
