We both landed in a heap on the floor. As I got up, I looked into his eyes.
"Wait"
He blushed.
"You're the girl!"
He started to speak, but I interrupted him.
"No, don't apologize for lying," I said as I picked him up, "Come back to your room and tell me everything."
Once he was back in his hospital bed, he told me everything.
"Remember how I started feeling really ill at 7? My wings had become infected, and my parents told me it was because of the fact that they weren't really wings. It was just a big implant under the skin made to look like wings," he paused, and continued, "They put it in to keep me from getting teased. They tried just using antibiotics, but I started having to stay home from school a lot until they just pulled me out because the infection got worse. They removed the implant, then sent me to be homeschooled so I wouldn't be bullied. When I went out into the real world I built these wings."
"Well what about pretending to be a boy named Laken?" I asked.
"Well, you see... when they decided to get the implant removed instead of just put me on antibiotics, the doctors had to come from the bottom up. They made a small mistake, but it made me have to have my... you know... amputated. The entire thing. Just like a transsex surgery. I was fine with it because well, I was going to come out as transgender anyways. I started taking estrogen, but realized that to meet you I'd need to look the same. So I made this costume, and here we are."
