I have known Zeke for as long as I can remember.
We have been next door neighbors since we were born. Well, since I was born seeing that Zeke is older than me by five months.
We were inseparable as kids and would play together every day after school until our parents called us in for the night just as the illuminating street lights came on.
Summertime was even better because we were able to play all day long. Sometimes we would play football or video games. Zeke even tried teaching me how to play Texas Hold 'em; I wasn't very good.
This one other time we even shared our first kiss together when Zeke and I were both seven years old. The story isn't anything too crazy, but I personally still think it's cute.
We were playing hide and go seek with Jamie, Zeke's younger brother. So Zeke thought it would be a great idea to hide in their family's laundry closet. Then, the next thing I know, Zeke quickly pecks me on the lips. I didn't really know I was going to have my first kiss that day. It just kind of happened with Zeke initiating the kiss.
It was like one of those stereotypical storylines found in a book or movie. You know the ones that go: the boy next door likes the girl next door and eventually kisses her.
Blah, blah, blah...
Luckily, when Jamie found us hiding in the laundry closet, he didn't catch us kissing. We pulled away before then, not that we knew what we were doing anyhow. I mean, come on we were seven!
At seven years old, a kiss doesn't really mean anything. It's more like a mini experiment to try when you've seen your parents do that or a couple on TV were kissing.
Unfortunately, as we grew older, Zeke and I grew apart. Totally cliché, but it happens. Long story short, he wanted to play with the other boys in our cul-de-sac styled neighborhood, while I ended up just hanging out with his little brother Jamie instead. Jamie and I were close friends, but not as close as Zeke and I used to be. That is until Jamie and I grew apart as well.
I went to a private school, Saint Raphael Elementary since preschool and both brothers attended public school, so we would only ever see one another during after school hours. It's like we both came from two different worlds at school and only came together as one when we went on adventures in the backyard, but that was all about to change now.
My private school only goes up to eighth grade.
So, Zeke and I were going to be attending the same public high school together.
