Mikaela, Paige, and I make our way to our next class. None of us are in the same classes except for physics and lunch.
"See you at lunch!" Paige excitedly blurts as both she and Mikaela turn the corner of their next course.
As I inch closer to the English classroom, I groan.
Not only do I have to go through a few more classes covered in paint, but attending my English class will mean I have to see the very person who caused my clothes to become a painted canvas. Zeke...
Speak of the devil, Zeke and his obnoxious girlfriend Mallory are occupying the space right outside the classroom door displaying enough PDA for everyone in the entire school to feel as if they walked into a PG13 movie.
How lovely...
I eye Zeke realizing he was able to change out of his paint covered clothes. My guess is that he already had gym so he could wear clothes that were not covered in paint unlike me.
Planning to ignore them entirely, I try to walk through the doorway, but of course, knowing Mallory, she stops eating Zeke's face just to glance over at me since she can't ever seem to keep her nose out of other people's lives.
"You know, Braelyn, painting yourself like one of Jackson Pollock's pieces still won't help the boys notice you, but this is giving me flashbacks from the wet dog food all over your face freshman year," scoffs Mallory.
I just roll my eyes at Mallory most of the time when she opens her mouth to speak, but I'm proud she knows who Jackson Pollock is. But did she seriously have to bring up the dog food thing? I literally just got over that like yesterday. I'm totally kidding. Although, my motto is: 'Always forgive, but never forget.' I certainly didn't quite forgive Mallory for her immature behavior, but she did help me realize who the fakes are.
Anyway, she still hasn't gotten over the fact that her boyfriend Zeke and I are next door neighbors and that he doesn't seem to hate me as much as she wants him to. I'm not sure why that matters so much to her.
I faintly hear Zeke groan at Mallory's childish comment.
What?
Did he not think everything that comes out of his girlfriend's mouth was hilarious?
Even if it was about me. A girl he used to be close with.
"Mallory, I don't have the energy to pretend to give a damn what you think today," I reply.
I fake smile at her, then my gaze lands on Zeke.
"Hey Braelyn," Zeke says, trying to break the tension which almost always never works.
"Hey Zeke," I sarcastically smile back at him.
Mallory didn't seem to appreciate Zeke's genuine niceness toward me, so she says, "It's pointless to make fun of you when you go around looking like that."
If Mallory wants to spit fire at me, fine.
Then, I'm game.
"It's a real shame you can't Photoshop an ugly personality," I state to Mallory.
"Remember that time someone said they thought you were cool? They lied," clearly Mallory was up for a showdown too.
I scoff at the fact that she thinks she is going to win this, "Do yourself a favor and ignore anyone who tells you to be yourself because that's a bad idea in your case."
"Oh, poor Braelyn. Don't hate me because I'm beautiful. Hate me because my boyfriend thinks so," pouting her lips as she finishes her comeback.
This girl is the epitome of self-centered as if she's the sun and all of us revolve around her loathsome ass.
Trying to outwit her, I respond, "Wow. If ignorance is bliss, you must be the happiest person on the planet."
"Hilarious. You only annoy me when you're breathing, really," says Mallory.
"Are you always this ridiculous, or do you just show off when he's around?" I say as I raise my eyebrows and shift my focus onto Zeke.
He is totally smizing at this very moment.
You'd think he would defend Mallory, but I guess he thinks she's tough enough to fight her own verbal battles.
Quickly, Mallory looks up at Zeke and huffs.
She's so whiny.
Class is almost starting so I have to end this out of hand conversation with her.
Thinking on my toes, I gather my final words, "Look, Mallory, I'm trying my absolute hardest to see things from your perspective, but I just can't seem to get my head that far up my ass."
Mallory is taken aback.
You could literally hear the gears in her brain turning as she tries to come up with something clever.
I glance over at Zeke as he snickers at my final insult towards Mallory.
"People like you are the reason there's such a thing called cliques," she finally says.
Wow, that was a totally good one, not!
Turning around to head into the English classroom to find my seat, I triumphantly grin and say, "Whatever."

Hello readers! First of all, I would like to say welcome and thank you for taking some time out of your lovely day to read my story.
Way to go, Braelyn! What do you think of Mallory? I know, she's terrible. Side note: the picture above is not of Braelyn and Mallory's characters. It was just a picture that seemed to fit the scene. Chapter 9, let's do this!
Enjoy! :)
