When Noah emerges from the cave once more, the glare of a setting sun burns his eyes. The boy starts to raise his arms to shield his eyes but can't. The weary girl who can talk to his mind rests peacefully in his arms. Instead of hearing her frantic voice, something he's just started to get used to, he can only hear the quiet hum of her breaths. Looking into her face, Noah can see her cheeks are rather pale though a fluttering gold hue shines on them. Looking closely at his arms then all over his body he realizes the light is coming from him.
"Man, now I'm turning yellow. What's wrong?"
But just as he opens his mouth, the glow changes once more to a bright white. The color matches the shade he saw when the soldiers first pointed their guns at him earlier.
"I guess I'll have to ask you more about this later, huh?" Noah whispers to the sleeping girl, "Maybe now I should find you some help though. I hope I can find you some food and water, maybe some clean clothes, too."
The boy looks down at the leg once more, the injured one. According to Kay she had her lower leg pinned under a stone for over seven days. When he first pried her free from the rock the shin in fact looked flush with bruising. Purple, green, and yellow had covered most of the flesh from ankle to knee but now her bruise is smaller, perhaps the size of a quarter in diameter.
Wow! That's so cool, but I bet she still needs help. Right? I could take her back home, but if I take her to a hospital on Earth they try to experiment on her. I can't let that happen. Where is this again? Velos? Man, I don't where to go? She has memories of the door back to her castle...but that place was getting attacked! There was that town...but that Scorch guy was there! Geez! The town seems closer so that will have to do. Hang on Kay, I'll get you-What was that?
The boy stops where he stands at the sound of whispers. Peering through the tree line, his eyes don't reveal anyone though his mind allows him to see someone looking at him. Oddly enough he can see himself as if through the individual's eyes from his own body! Listening with his ears, the whispers come in another language. Shaking his head, his mind comes through once more allowing him to hear the thoughts of his spectators.
Is that the princess in his arms?
My God! Who is this strange Aud?
Are we sure he is an Aud?
Is he evil? Shall I slay him now before he harms her?
Noah shudders.
"WHOA DON'T SLAY ME!"
The boy takes a deep breath and closes his eyes to focus. He can see them clearly from the eyes of the one who just spoke. To his right are three men in black armored suits that cover their bodies from collar to toes. They all frantically wave at the one called Tychon as he looks down the sights of a crossbow pointed directly at-
"CRAP!"
Noah drops to his knees, folding his torso over Kalista like a blanket as an arrow fires right over his head. He grits his teeth as he does his best to make himself small, something he knew was impossible.
Bringing his attention back to the archer, he finds him staring in awe at the tail of an arrow protruding from a tree behind the behind.
I...I missed?
Noah breathes in the rich smell of soil beneath him. The thick hair on Kalista's head tickles his face as he pulls away from her to come up on his lower legs.
Noah brings his head up, his eyes glaring at the young man before him.
"HEY! LEAVE US ALONE!"
The archer as well as the others in black stare at him cautiously but remain silent. It's then that he remembers the men don't speak the same language as him.
