For the next two weeks, Kalista and her Allahellene companions do their best to fit in at Noah's school. Kalista finds the courses to be moderately challenging, particularly the History and English class given English is a second language where as classes like Physics and Calculus come a little more naturally for her. For the boys Kay finds a start contrast with Tychon seemingly struggling with all of his classes both in content and in attention while Alexius appears to be a natural student. Having had a host of personal tutors her entire life, Kay finds sitting in the classroom with other students her age both odd and challenging. Like Noah she has much trouble focusing on the material being presented during class as the students tend to spend a great deal of time evaluating their peers or obsessing over distractions.
I can't believe Jenny is going to Notre Dame? What about her family?
Private schools are so expensive. I feel like I should go to a public university.
Does this stuff even matter? I bet Pines is just yapping away about this but it won't be on the AP test. What a nerd!
Did Molly Beston put purple in her hair?
Why do I feel like Sarah is flirting with Justin? She wouldn't do that to me right?
Looking up from her bleacher in the gymnasium, Kalista looks over her notepad at the blonde haired Jimmy. His eyes watching the little Sarah as she smiles and sways her head left and right while talking to Justin in the hallway. She doesn't have to read their minds to know why they're smiling.
Oh no! Oh no. Oh no. Oh no!
Kalista shifts her gaze to a group of girls sitting in front of Jimmy including Katie Knone, Leigh Thompson, and a frowning Molly Beston. She watches as the dark haired girl rummages violently through her backpack for something then stops only to groan.
What did you forget, Molly?
Katie, I completely forgot my lunch. I made this sushi and...ah, it's at home on the counter...probably going bad right now.
Oh no. Can you maybe just buy lunch today?
Ah Leigh, I would brave the chef's version of seafood if I could, but I still haven't got my credit card back.
You haven't? I feel like when I lost my card the bank sent me one right away.
Yeah but then your parents probably didn't hold it on to it so you'd learn a valuable lesson about having nice things.
The girls all sigh and nod.
Kalista can see Molly getting off of some exercise machine in a gym. She walks over to what appears to be a mirror though it lines the length of the building and bends over to grab a handful of items including her keys, ID, and credit card before sticking them all into her very dark and very tight fitting pants. Presumably this is where Molly believes she lost the card though she was unable to recover it before her parents became upset with her.
That's OK, I'll spot you, Molly.
Katie, I owe you like three lunches now.
Well let me...owe, ha ha. Um, I seem to have left my wallet at home.
Molly turns to Katie then Leigh and shakes her head to both girls.
It's OK. It's my fault I-oh, look who it is!
The girls all turn towards the middle fo the gym, Kalista following their eyes, to see Noah Hart making his way across the room holding yet another large container though this time there appears to be something green inside. Scanning his mind, Kalista shakes her head knowing he just went home and made the salad though that was not what he was about to say. She listens again.
