What a day!
Lying down in the space between seats of the bleachers in the gym for last period, Noah recounts his Wednesday.
The History test is too easy for him. He feels excited at first to finish the exam only to have to sit quiet and still for the remainder of class while others worked. When the bell finally rings, he's relieved to get out of his seat.
Though Physics isn't quite as slow, Noah has trouble focusing. He can barely wait for snack period as well as the opportunity to catch up on homework.
Unfortunately snack isn't something Noah would typically prefer such as pancakes or sausage biscuits.
Spinach and peppers quiche? What are we French?
Noah chews up the "healthy" snack before sitting down on a courtyard bench to start his Calculus homework. Unfortunately it turns out to be much longer than originally expected. He slides his textbook and notebook into his backpack and darts over to the gymnasium to complete his assignment in his first Study Hall. Though he succeeds, there are only seconds before the bell rings for him to leave.
Noah hands his finished assignment into Mrs. Weaver with a smile before collapsing in his seat. Though she doesn't say anything, Noah can't help but feel on edge the whole period, wondering if she suddenly call on him about his very rushed looking problems. He can feel a pit form in his stomach all the way up into lunch period.
One thing Noah often looks forward to at Willie Blount Academy is the buffet style cafeteria room usually fitted with a wide array of foods. Not that Noah was typically an experimental eater, he just liked the idea that there plenty of options to pass up for the ones he wanted. Today there were some new salads, plates of green loaded with various things such as Greek filled with peppers and olives or Summer berry topped with assorted berries and white cheese. Colorful as they were, Noah didn't stop a beat to march on over to the pizza bar.
"Oh thank, God" he mutters to himself as he eyes a pie loaded with bacon and grilled chicken strips, "There's something good today."
Noah takes a spot at the end of his usual table by Blaise and Huxley. At first his ears perk up when he hears the words "XP" and "level up" though he quickly realizes that the boys are chatting about some online video game.
What game are they talking about-ya know what? I don't care. Those games are all about being experts at shooting or hacking and not about story. Not about taking your time enjoying yourself. Ugh! Boring.
Noah periodically nods in between bites then heads out once he's done eating.
Many students in English class groan when they remember their quiz on the summer reading book "The Things They Carried" is today. Noah doesn't sweat it, he actually enjoyed the story. When he learns after the quiz that the next subject will be Hamlet though Noah frowns. Though he had never read this particular Shakespearean story he had heard of it and knew it wouldn't be more uplifting than the last book.
Latin class proves mentally stimulating for him at least as the class begins to dig into Bellum Gallicum, Julius Caesar's accounts of the Gallic Wars. Noah smiles as he looks over the book with Latin text and English notes then looks back to his syllabus. The "Bellum" is listed for everyday this semester and extends after the winter break.
Geez! This will probably get old soon.
Noah heads back to the gym for last period, his second Study Hall, and skims over the first two chapters in a matter of minutes. Unmotivated to start on his other homework assignments, he puts everything back in his backpack and lays it under his head like a pillow. Looking over at Huxley and Blaise, the redhead groans as they play Hangman to pass the time.
