My Stepfather

Family Dinner

I went in and rushed to my room just to find Mother cleaning out my wardrobe.

"What are you doing? We just moved!" I spoke.

"Taking put a fancy dress for you!" She replied.

"What for?" I asked.

"Dinner, tonight, just the three of us, you need to give Kai a chance whether  you like it or not". She said.

"Well, I don't like it, I don't want to dine besides I've got someone coming over!" I said as I sat down on the bed. Mother came and sat by me.

"Look, this marriage is the best thing that has happened to us, you've got to give Kai a chance, take tonight as an opportunity to bond and become close, I know it's been very long but I want us to have dinner as a family again, just you, me and Kai". She replied stroking my hair.

This marriage must have been good for you but hasn't been the best for me, I still need to adjust and I don't think I can ever accept Kai as my father! He stole your heart Mother, he stole you from me and I'm sure this idea is his too, I can't stand him.

"Mother, I'd like for us to experience a fine dining experience but I've got someone coming over today!" I said looking at her.

"Hey, whose coming over my precious pearl? Kai asked as he swiped his hair back and sat by me.

"Okay, first. You should knock when you...." I began but Mother nudged me.

"Luhan!" I said slouching.

"A guy!" Kai exclaimed thinking about something.

"Wait, you invited a boy  home? Have I not thought you anything? You can't just go to school for two days and bring a guy over? Did I not tell you to stay clears of strangers!" Mother scolded me.

Yeah! Go on, scold me because you clearly didn't find Kai as a stranger before you married him. If you can bring a guy over to be my father than I can bring a guy too, besides, he's only my science partner, nothing else.

"I can explain!"I blurted  out. "He and I have been paired up for a science fair project." I added.

"In that case, tell him to come over some other time, because tonight we are going out!" Mother exclaimed excited.

"You two  go ahead, I better get started," I said as I got up but Mother pulled my arm and I fell back on the bed, I was trapped between Kai and Mother.

"I'll tell him that today isn't a good idea!" I said with sarcasm in my voice.

I went downstairs and called Chen. The phone rang.

"Hey Na-young, how's everything?" He asked.

"Hey, listen, I don't have Luhan's  number. Can you call him for me and tell him that he can't come over today?"I said.

"Why don't you tell him yourself,  I'll text you the number and he's not as bad as you think, he's a pretty decent guy Na-young." Chen replied.

"Alright, I'll tell him, talk to you later, 안녕, bye!"I said as I shut the phone. I got a text soon and I dialed Luhan's number but he didn't pick us, I dialed again but still he didn't pick up so I texted him:

"Hey, it's Na-young, I'm not available today, drop in tomorrow!"

We headed out by six-thirty and went to a fancy restaurant.

"Mother, you look gorgeous!" I exclaimed looking at her dress.

She was wearing one of her finest satin dress that she never wore after Father died, she looked really happy and having a young face, she was really pretty!"
