Chapter 6

Chapter five wasn't that great I realize but I'm trying to work up to their relationship before Thomas comes up in the box and the good stuff starts to happen! Enjoy you guys and let me know if you have any suggestions or would like to see something.

Today I start work with the med jacks. I figured out the basics and I am able to bandage minor cuts. The patients were mainly the slicers, who for some reason can't figure out how to use a knife, and the builders who would constantly get splinters stuck in their hands.

After I finish bandaging a slicer's hand I begin to clean up a little to help prevent infection. I turn around and scream. Jason stands a foot behind me holding out his splintered hand.

"Jesus Jason how long have you been standing there?" I pant.

"Not long." He just stares at me and I'm become extremely uncomfortable.

"Well let's get these splinters out of your hand." I say hoping to spark a conversation. He sits on the bed and stares at me intently. I ignore him and start working on his hand, pulling out the splinters with tweezers. "Your hand looks really red and swollen. Why did you wait so long to come here."

"You were busy."

"Yeah but Jeff and Clint were available and they're better than me."

"Well I wanted you to do it." I don't know what to say so I continue to work on his hand as fast as I can, wanting him to leave as I get an uneasy feeling in my chest. After a few minutes he asks a question,

"Are you dating newt?"

"What? No. Why would you say that?" I stop working on his hand to look up at him and see him smile.

"Your always with each other and holding hands so I just assumed you were." He shrugs.

"Well we're just friends so." I return to his hand.

"Your really pretty" I freeze.

"Um thanks." I hate this. I only like it when newt calls me pretty. This feels wrong. I just need to finish his hand and he'll leave I think to myself as I start to pull out the last of the splinters, not caring that I'm starting to draw blood from the rapid movement.

"Are you hungry? Do you want to get lunch with me."

"I can't I'm getting lunch with newt"

"But your just friends so he won't mind right?"

I quickly try to come up with an excuse when I finish his hand. I wipe it with antiseptic and bandage it. "Aright your good to go" I stand up and turn my back to him beginning to clean up. I don't hear him leave, but yet I didn't hear him enter so I just assume he's gone.

I feel breathing on the back of my neck and turn to see him standing right behind me, "holy crap you need to leave."

He steps towards me and I step back. I begin to freak out but luckily he leaves when he sees newt walking in. Newt sees my frightened face and glares at Jason, contemplating if he should follow him or not.

"Hey what happened" he asks, concern crossing his features as he watches Jason retreat quickly.

"Nothing he just wanted me to go to lunch with him, but I declined. I guess that he was embarrassed. I was too that's why I had that look on my face."

Newts eyes narrow for a bit as he stares at me, but he seems to brush it off as he takes my hand to go to lunch. He glares at Jason the second we enter and wraps his arm around my waist, making me roll my eyes. I love his protective state but I was scared he would get himself hurt one of these days.
