*·*·*THE NEXT DAY*.*.*

UNCLE NOVIAN IS GETTING MARRIED!

I smile at myself in the mirror. My simple peach colored dress looks good against my complexion, and Momma cornrowed one side of my head while the rest of my blonde curls fall to my shoulders. She let me put on lip gloss but that's it. I'm the flower girl, and Noel is bringing the ring.

Momma waltz in her light blue mermaid dress. Her hair is identical mine, and her makeup is popping. Everyday she flaunts the reason why Daddy chose her instead of Miss Baylee. And of course her personality, but I'd be lying if I didn't say my mother is an eye catcher.

"Awww," she coos when she sees me. "My little girl's growing up."

I roll my eyes with a smile as she puts her arms around me. I find her eyes in the mirror. My 5'3 height is boosted by my three in heels but even without it, I'm taller than Momma. Thanks to Daddy.

"Uncle Novian will be happy with Aunt Kiera right?"

"I know he will be. These four years he's been dating her... I think he will be." I nod okay. I love Uncle Novian. Mostly because Noel and I do the most bad things with him. He's so down to earth and chill. Aunt Aissie too.

Except that woman is at one hundred everyday.

When we're done, Noel and I wait behind the doors of the church. Our call arrives, and I walk behind him as he holds the rings. I smile wide, letting my braces show. I find Momma, Daddy, Aunt Aissie, Uncle Gabe, and Miss Lil and her girlfriend, Sarah, all giving me thumbs up. They look like complete stalkers, and weirdos but it only makes me smile wider.

Uncle Novian is in a blue suit, his hair nicely shaven. Even his beard is cut down to a chin strapped goatee. He looks handsome as always. Aunt Kiera is in a white ball gown with a heart shaped neckline. Her brown hair is bound in an elegant bun. They say their vowels, kiss very deeply, and then walk out the church with cheers that are brighter than my future.

Noel grabs my hand when we get lost in the crowd. Aunt Aissie and Uncle Gabe find us. Uncle Gabe puts an arm around Noel and gives me a wink.

"How's my favorite niece and nephew?" he asks over the crowd. I shrug.

"Getting demolished by a bunch of strangers!"

Ain't Aissie feigns a gasp and grasps her heart. "I cleaned your nasty diapers as a child, and you have the nerve to call me a stranger?!"

I sigh. "Aunt Aissie...." she laughs throwing her head onto Uncle Gabe's shoulder. See? Crazy, stalkerish, weirdos. But that's my family for ya.

*·*·DURING THE RECEPTION*.*.

I find Chris at the reception when the jokes at the adult table was getting too R-Rated. Like did they really think, me, a thirteen-year-old in the twenty first century would miss "After this party I think Kiera and I will have to buy a new bed."

I told y'all Uncle Novian is bad. Even Momma encouraged me to leave. Daddy however was too interested in the jokes.

"Christina!" I yell at her when I find her with a group of kids. She waves me over, and I run in my inch heels only for it to be a mistake that will never hurt again.

"Dammit," I mutter quietly so none of my family members will hear. I rub the back of my feet. In front of me is Chris, a boy, another boy, a girl, another girl, and a god. Oh, sorry. Another boy. But he's too hot to be a boy.

His name is Luther. And he's Miss Kahli— my mother's best friend's— son.

And he's hot.

Oh, I already established that.

"Whoaaaa," I say taking him in. He looks super good today. Black jacket with gold shoulders, black jeans and is that gold teeth I see? Damn.

"Halo Meyers," he winks at me getting closer. My heartbeat quickens and I lick my brackets out of a nervous habit.

"Hi, Luther. What? Not going to throw me in the pool?" I tease him watching him smile. His golden brown skin— just shades darker mine— gleams under the sunlight. He and I have a little history.

"If there was one, I'd throw you again like I did. Except this time I'll make sure your dad doesn't catch me."

I chuckle. "He beat your butt didn't he?"

He shakes his head lookin at where the adults sit. "My momma let him too!"

"Okay you two don't make everyone feel like a third wheel," Chris rolls her eyes. I try not to let my mouth fall open. I pull her backward so we make distance between us and everybody else.

"He's fifteen Chris," I growl softly. She scoffs, a taunting smile at her lips.

"Doesn't stop you from getting it," she shrugs my grasp off. She looks at Luther and then looks at me. "You likey don't you?"

I pretend like that's the most absurd idea I've ever heard and scoff dramatically. "No! Stop!"

"Mmhmm-mhmm," she shakes her head. "Just be careful, Halo. He is fifteen."

I sigh ignoring her even though she's right.

Me likey.

A/N: I squealed so many times in this chapter I can't. I love thirteen-year-old Halo. What do y'all think about Luther?  And Halo having feelings for him?

Thanks for reading everyone! Hope you enjoyed!
