•AVIANA•
Angel and I bust into the emergency room to find Noel on the hospital bed.
"MOMMA!" he shrieks and I run to him, collecting him in my arms. His small head lays on my chest as my own tears fall down. I hate seeing him in pain. Angel has Halo in his arms, as he talks to Aislin. The doctor walks forward.
"Noel Meyers' parents?" he asks. Angel and I rush forward. The doctor reads out loud what's needs to be done or what was done. So Noel got an x-ray and he fractured a bone. They said the bone will heal on its own, but they'll have to put him in a cast.
"It'll be okay, baby," I tell Noel. He shakes his head no, more tears streaming down his face. He's really scared.
"Cmere Bud," Angel reaches for him. I give him to his daddy, and look at Aislin. She's at a corner, a solemn look on her face. She sees me and starts ranting.
"I'm sorry! I'm so sorry, Avi. I swear I was watching them. I didn't see Noel go up the stairs, and when I went to get him he... he was coming down but he missed a step! I'm so sorry!"
I scoff. "I trusted you... I know you didn't mean for this to happen. But damnit Aislin, what if he didn't break his arm? What if he broke his neck? Then I wouldn't have my son right?"
She sighs. "I'm sorry."
"You gotta go," it hurts from the bottom of my heart, but I know I'm doing this for my children. "I'm sorry, Ais but maybe you shouldn't be here this weekend. Thanks for everything."
The doctor told Angel the rest of the procedures and Noel now has a cast on his arm. He's glaring at it, and even clawing at it.
"Noe, you can't take it off," I move his hand away from the cast. He frowns and raises his arm. I grab him and put him on my hip. Angel is carrying Halo who's sound asleep.
.*.*·*·*·*·*·*6 WEEKS LATER*·*·*·*·*·*·*·
Noel is getting his cast off. And when we told him he was the happiest baby on Earth. Halo got enrolled into preschool, and Noel will be in preschool next year. Angel is at work.
The doctor takes the cast off, and asks Noel to move his arm. He does. He shakes it, he moves it up and down and it doesn't hurt anymore.
"Yay!!!" he screams happily when the doctor officially announces that he's okay. I smile at him. For these last six weeks I had to sleep with Noel otherwise he'd cry himself to sleep, and he didn't want to come downstairs by himself cause he's traumatized.
"Want ice cream Bud?" he grabs my hand when we walk out the hospital. He nods. I find a Mister Softee's ice cream truck parked outside the hospital. He gets a cone and I get one too. We sit in the car, eating the ice cream and talking away.
"I feel better," he says licking his cone. The ice cream drips down his chin. I wipe it away with the napkin.
"That's good Buddy," I ruffle his hair. "Momma's sorry that you had to go through that."
"It okay."
I chuckle at his response. My phone buzzes in my pocketbook. I grab it to see that Aislin is the one calling. Deciding to ignore it, I turn my phone onto vibrate and continue eating ice cream with my son.
When Noel and I arrive home, Halo and Angel are playing pillow fight. They're jumping on the couch, the cushion inside the pillow flowing out. I put my hand on my waist, waiting for them to notice my presence.
"Momma!" Halo whispers and flops down to sit on the couch. Angel gets alarmed and sit down too like that's what they'd been doing the whole time.
"Hey babe," he smiles and puts an arm around Halo. "I was just... showing her how to make a pillow comfortable."
I roll my eyes with pursed lips. "Uh-huh. Just clean up your mess." They moth run to it, putting the pillows back, picking up the cushion and everything. I shake my head at them.
"Why is Halo home so early?"
"Her teacher had a stroke... and they couldn't find a substitute. I was let it early from work so I came to get her when I got the call," Angel responds. He picks up Noel doing their little handshake he showed the boy.
"Aviana isn't answering her phone," sighs a voice that I know too well. "She's still pissed."
Aislin runs a hand through her blonde mane when her eyes land on me. I raise an eyebrow at Angel. He sighs getting in between us.
"Y'all need to talk. I'll take the kids so you can," he growls softly. He pecks a kiss to my forehead and takes the kids to the living room.
I watch Aislin sit down on the couch messing with her fingers. I sit down next to her. I'm still angry.
"I'm sorry," she begins. "I didn't mean for that to happen. I should've watched them more carefully. I... I don't understand what you went through, but I can imagine. I know your children mean the world to you, Avi, but they mean the world to me too. I love them too. I'm just asking for your forgiveness."
I sigh. "I'm sorry too. I'm sorry I didn't give you enough time to explain, but I will not apologize for how I felt. I felt terrified, and I felt like it was my fault. Maybe I shouldn't have left my child with you, but even if I didn't, what happened could've happened with me or Angel. So it's not my fault, or yours. Things happen, and we can't always stop it. So you have my forgiveness. Do I have yours?"
Aislin jumps into my arms. "Yes! Of course! Thank you. And I'm so sorry I met Momma Bear. Never want to meet her again."
I giggle rolling my eyes. "You'll understand one day, Ais. You'll understand."
