|She's Back|

[Marissa]

I look at myself in the mirror and saw a tree.

Yes. I saw a tree. I don't know how but I saw a tree.

I yawned brushing my morning bird nest-like hair still staring at the noticeable bags under my eyes.

It's hard sleeping at such an unfamiliar place especially around people I barely know.

After getting ready, I throw on a large white tee and a pair of short shorts.

The doctor told me that they retrieved my bag from the car before we left. I grabbed my phone from the bag and walked out the door. The hall was very quiet in which I could think about my life so far.

I'm surprised that I'm adjusting so easily, I'm not even homesick. The people in this house fascinate me so much. There's something about them that had me drawn to them. I don't fully trust them though and I'm not sure if I ever will.

I'm not the type to be curious but I'd like to know more about them. They just seem a tad too nice. Like in Wattpad books usually the family is cruel.

And here you go again comparing fiction with reality

It doesn't feel like reality, like seriously. How often do you hear a teenager run away from home, get into an accident resulting being carried off in a vehicle with a stranger. Let's not forget the whole kidnapping claim and secret alive parents.

Should I?

I sat on my bed staring at the door like a moron.

I'm super hungry but it's so early in the morning. I'm a guest right, so does that mean I'm allowed or should give personal space.

Personal space to whom?

Who are you?

The boogie man

I'm not sure if you're sarcastic or I'm going insane.

I'm your...conscience now go downstairs maybe River will be there

River? Okay....

I glanced at the door slowly getting up.

Yes, I already freshened up in the bathroom, there's no I'd let people see me with a pillow printed face.

I opened the door, peeking left and right.

The wooden floor creaked as I attempted to walk quietly downstairs.
When I reached down the last step of the stairs, like my conscience said I saw River in the kitchen.

"Somebody woke up early", he suddenly said, mind you his back was facing me.

It's quite startling if you ask me especially for a jumpy and clumsy person like me.

"How did you even--",he cut me off, "Could feel you staring at me"

I blushed furiously from the neck up while moving towards the stool behind the bar area.

I looked at him, his biceps flexed as he prepared breakfast. The pot sizzled as he poured the egg batter.

He multitasked, placing sausages in a pan and preparing coffee.

He was shirtless and I just could not look away. His back muscle flexed, he was just so toned.

River seemed slightly tensed and he turned to me.

"Ever heard staring is bad?" I blushed again, glaring at him as he smirked.

He stopped when he looked down and on instinct I immediately look down too.

My cleavage was quite a sight and unfortunately my shirt was see through.

My mouth hanged open as I continued to stare. I slowly looked up to River and laughed nervously.

"Oops?" I smiled awkwardly, fiddling with my fingers.

We kept staring into each other's eyes and his showed some form of intensity.

I couldn't pin point it but his eyes showed something and at that moment I knew it was lust. I couldn't stop staring in his eyes vice versa.

"So....?" he whispered as if we were in a theatre.

The intensity grew and I couldn't hold it no more. I broke the eye contact looking down and biting my lip.

"Stop it", he made an animalistic growl at the back of his throat, it was low and husky.

I scooted on the stool fixing myself and looking back up to River.

"Huh?" I questioned.

"Stop biting your lips, it's...distracting", he looked at me with lust.

"I'm back!" the front door swung open and a beautiful blonde lady entered quite energetically.

I jumped back in surprise falling off the high stool and landing straight on my buttocks.

I yelped in pain as River rushed to my aid. He looked so concerned I was taken a back and he pulled me up.

"Are you hurt?" he analyzed me from head to toe and the lady at the door cleared her throat.

"Is this her?" she eyed me and I got self consciously.

River looked at me with gleaming eyes, "Yes ma, that's her, that's her"

His mother squealed in excitement, "Welcome to the family, oh River you fo-"

He coughed and his mother stopped then glanced at me then at him and opened her mouth in exasperation.

Confusion irked on my face and those both looked at me smiling.

"Anyways, it's nice meeting you, call me Sarah" she came and gave me a bone crushing hug, "Welcome to the family"

I stood frozen in place, patting her pack awkwardly as River tried to stifle his laughter by cover his mouth with his hand.

She stopped then went into the kitchen, "I hope they have all welcomed you in open arms, some more than others"

River groaned huskily, "Mom go eat something, or sleep or go away"

She chuckled, "Why don't you and Marissa over there go to the store"

Her voice echoed due to the emptiness of the cupboards her head was in.

"I left for one week and none of y'all thought of grocery shopping", she scolded and sighed.

River scratched the back of his head as I laughed. He looked so adorable with the pout he placed on his face.

The clock on the wall started to sing, 12:00pm.

"Okay that's it", River's mom shrieked, "Get the hell up everyone!"

She ran up the stairs throwing her bags to the ground. That lady is crazy and I don't want to be her to see this.

Just then Charlie and Brooke came running down the stairs with shrivelled hair and a printed face.

"Don't you think we should..." I trailed off looking at River, "Yeah we should skedaddle before the monster awak-"

"Blake! Logan! Owen! Luke! If you don't wake up I'm going to grab y'all by y'all maginas an-"

"Yup, we're getting out of here", River dragged me out the house and me pleasantly following him.
