"Fef," Eridan said. "Hurry, you're holdin' the breakfast line up."

"I just can't decide between the cinnamon bun or French toast." Feferi was putting a lot of thought into her breakfast choice, as usual.

"They're both crap. Just choose before the bell rings, please."

"I'll have the cinnamon bun!" Feferi ordered.

The two sat down with their breakfasts. "Why do you order breakfast at school when your family is so rich?" Eridan asked Feferi.

"Might I ask you the same?" was her response. "I like the breakfast here. I think it's tasty!"

"Whatever," Eridan sighed as he brushed a loose strand of his purple-streaked hair back.

For years, Feferi and Eridan had always watched each other's backs. In fact, most of the "back watching" came from Feferi. While she was often sweet to others, Eridan would often be critical towards kids of lower class. Feferi kept him from becoming aggressive. With their relationship as far as it was, one could consider them to be friends.

"Fef," Eridan said after a few minutes of silence. "I've been wantin' to talk to you 'bout somethin'."

"Me too," Feferi said in response.

"You go first."

"Okay." Feferi sighed. "I don't think we should hang out a lot."

"What?" Eridan was shocked.

"We can still be friends!" Feferi assured him. "I just find it exhausting that I have to keep you from causing trouble with the poorer kids. What were you gonna say?"

"I was goin' to ask you if you wanted to be boyfriend-girlfriend, if you've ever considered it."

"I've never thought of us together!"

Hopefully, Eridan asked, "Now that it's out there, what do you think?"

"Whale," she frowned. "I don't reely know about that."

"Didn't you say you liked me though?" Eridan questioned.

"Yeah, but not like that. I'm sorry Eridan, but it isn't happening."

"Wow," Eridan rested his face in his hands. "I can't believe I said all a' this to you like a sappy pile of trash when there was no way it could happen."

"Quiet, Eridan!"

"I'm the worst. Worse than even the grovelin' poor kids who take the SCHOOL BUS."

"Stop it Eridan! Pull yourself together! We are still fronds, and I'll always have your back, but not as a day job! We're only ten anywaves." The class bell rang, signaling for the kids to get to class. She stood up and threw her half-eaten breakfast into the trash can next to her. "I'm going to Ms. Megido's class now."

"Don't leave yet," Eridan said as she walked off.
