The whitecoat retrieved a key from his coat pocket, and bent down, unlocking the gold padlock, which had been preventing Angel from escaping for what seemed like forever. He pulled the cage door open and she crawled forwards on her hands and knees, before standing up. She stretched her arms and wings, which felt sore from being folded behind her for such a long time. "Come along, little one. Follow me." They walked out of the lab, passing some complex equipment- Angel could only wonder what it was for.
The corridor they walked through was narrow and poorly lit- the lights had a slightly green tinge, and reminded her of the school, causing her to shudder. That was a scary place, and it enveloped her childhood; this was different, though. Why? Because it didn't seem as intimidating; finally she was going to get a chance to shine, instead of always having to listen to Max. She may have been the eldest of the flock, but based on what Angel had heard, this didn't make her the most powerful.
The whitecoat took a left after walking through the corridor for about two minutes and opened the third door on the right. Angel's line of sight went just above the bottom of the frosted glass window of the door; she may have been mentally strong and physically advanced, but it was darn annoying being so short.
"Where are we?" she asked the whitecoat as she followed him through the door. She had noticed the corridors had been eerily empty- there wasn't a soul to be seen. Maybe there was a logical reason for this; it could have been incredibly late at night, but Angel couldn't tell. All the walls were plastered white and there were no windows revealing the sun's place in the sky, so who knew how much time had passed since she had been here? It could have been hours, days, months.
"We're in the canteen. I'll get you a nice warm drink; you look practically frozen in that little white dress." He had a point; although she was more comfortable with this place than she had been before, they really needed to invest in some central heating. She sat down on one of the plastic chairs whilst the man went over to the drinks machine with a brown paper cup.
A little voice inside her head reminded her of how much she missed her family, the flock, and for a nanosecond she considered how much they were missing her before shutting it out. They didn't matter anymore. She was the most important one.
