Anxious Girls Write Poetry

i'll never be able
to reach for your hand
but i'm the kind of girl
that will write poetry about it
at 3am
when i wish
i would've just tried.

i'll never be able
to kiss you goodbye
but i'm the kind of girl
that will write entire books
about your lips
even though
they've never met my own.

i'll never be able
to say exactly what i'm feeling
but i'm the kind of girl
that could sum it up pefectly
within the lyrics
of a song.

i tell you all this
because i'm the kind of girl
that can't express what i feel
or at least
on the outside,

but if you asked me to
i'd fill a thousand pages
with every thought
i've had about you
just to make you smile.

so maybe one day
i'll be able to show you how i feel
in something other than words
on paper,

but for now
i offer you this:

i love you,
i love you,
i love you.

and if i wrote that
a hundred more times
then you'd have all the things
i overthink saying
and one really repetetive poem:

damn,
i really love you.

i want you to know that
even if i'm not the kind of girl
to say it aloud,

because i am the kind of girl
to tell the truth,

i'm just not always good
at saying it.
