I had just barely slowed my racing heart when the door burst open. Daniel stood in the entryway, his hair was messy and his eyes had a wild light in them.
"Daniel! I could have been changing! You shoul-"
"But you weren't, were you? I know you were talking to Hibbucus. Don't try to deny it. What did he tell you? Did he tell you about her? About what happened?" He gasped for breath.
"Wha-What do you mean?" I backed away as he approached.
"You know what I'm talking about, Myria. Don't play games with me."
I fell on my bed and reached for the nearest object. I felt the smooth, worn cover of the art book beneath my hands as I held it up for a shield.
"Myria... I'm so sorry. Did I scare you?"
I looked up. Daniel was leaning over me, his hair was flat again-perhaps he smoothed it down. The wild light in his eyes was replaced by a more tired one. He groaned and weaves his fingers through his silvery hair.
"What happened?"
"I-" He started to say. Then he thought better of it. "It doesn't matter. Where did you find this?" He gestured to the art book I was holding. If he didn't want to tell me what happened then I won't ask, that is, I won't unless it happens again.
"I found it in the drawer."
"Interesting. One with my name shall find me again. So that's what she meant."
"Who meant what? And who's Hibbucus?"
"You really don't know anything, do you?" Daniel scoffed.
I folded my arms.
"What do you mean? I know things! I-" I looked around for something that might help. "I know how far away things are. I know that there are five other fallen coming to greet us. I know how to bake cookies and read a book-"
"Wait. What did you just say again?" Daniel interrupted again.
"I said it's very rude to interrupt when someone's talking to you."
"I know, I know. Sorry. Now, what did you say?"
"I know how to bake cookies. Now, how to make the dough is a whole entirely different matter."
"No, no! Before that."
"There are five fallen coming to greet us?"
"Yes! That. What do they look like?"
I peered into the distance. It was a funny feeling, the walls shimmered and disappeared. I squinted and could see the fallen clearer.
"Well, one has golden wings, short brown hair, is pretty small, and holding hands with a dark haired fallen with dark purple wings. The other two are supporting the last one. Oh my demons! His wings are torn up and mangled! Looks like the two supporting him are having a hard time keeping him in the sky! We should help!" I gasped as I saw them start to tumble. The two that were free looked ragged and worn, I'd guess they'd been traveling for awhile, and with the heat coming from the night sky, the world was scorching. I could feel the heat and I was surrounded by three foot thick walls. I couldn't imagine what it'd be like to experience the full brunt of the heat.
"Come on! Hurry!" Daniel raced out of my room, his black wings starting to unfurl as he raced for the front door.
I raced after him, starting to unfurl my own coppery wings. I was only a step behind him as we reached the front door and threw it open. The full extent of the heat hit me like a wall. Imagine the hottest day you've ever felt, now multiply that by a million plus two. The darkness also didn't help matters, it made it harder to see, which was strange, considering how I could see through the walls a few seconds earlier, but, despite the miserable heat, we shot into the air.
