Fore-note: "A Prince Named Recovery" is a short work being designed now and will begin soon... meantime, I am physically and emotionally, in 'recovery mode' after a surgical procedure in the hospital. The physical side takes six week and at this date, (end of June), two weeks have passed.

Respite is part of Recovery – the thesaurus gives 'R' words as similes – Release; Relief; Reprieve; and other similes are – breather, lull, let-up, breathing space, breathing room. 'Taking a break' is part of recovery. While in 'recovery' a patient can 'overdo it' as in getting back to 'work' earlier than recommended.

Doing more in a day than one has the energy to do... this can make us feel ragged, almost razed and can ruin our enjoyment in life.

Spiritually and emotionally, we can find ourselves feeling washed out and ill all over again; a lack of energy is a sign we've overdone it. As in a 'relapse' of a viral infection, a cold or cough, the relapse can be worse than the original sickness.

'Burnout' today is all too common. People who are 'workaholics' often suffer from burnout.

'Taking time out' is so important.

God's Word confirms this – especially the many times Jesus himself, 'took himself aside' – 'went up, alone into a mountain to pray', etc.

Elisha overdid himself and had a time of depression; as did other Biblical characters.

Did God 'have' to rest? Of course not! But He did rest on the seventh day, after six days of creation – I believe this was as a 'sign' or 'example' for us to follow – to regularly have time out.

Paul, the Apostle wrote: "For they gave me respite from labour and rested me and refreshed my spirit..." 1 Corinthians 16:18 AMP

"There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. Hebrews 6:9 NKJV

A poem – RESPITE:

Take a little respite – this is TIME-OUT, yes —respite—

Take a little respite in the day time, not just sleep at night —

We all need to have some respite, to freshen up our lives,

To breathe in some sea-salt air, praising God, this, our soul revives...

To view life from a mountain peak, a lake, or sit among forest trees;

The mind will find refreshment in colours of autumn leaves.

Turning waves, sandy shores,

Some restful days, work ignored;

Praising God, loving Him, in time that's called 'respite' —

The Lord wants us to function well, respite makes work feel right!

Seek respite, time with family; read and pray,

From work and worry, press and stress —stay away.

Respite, short, or long, especially after illness or deep stress;

Respite brings serenity; stillness, calmness, the soul to bless.
