I once belonged to a very active Christian writers' group and we received a prompt each day, having promised to write about each subject for 10 minutes.

On Thursday, April 13, 2006, the prompt given was 'Bible Diamond', with verses from Exodus 28 - v.15 And thou shalt make the breastplate of judgment with cunning work; v. 18 And the second row shall be an emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond.

I have, here, rewritten this short story from that ten minutes of 'scribble'...

The Mountainous Bible Diamond

I was so very young when I stumbled upon my first Bible diamond. I write — 'stumbled' — because, you see, I was blind, deaf, and crippled. Definitely not mute! — I could jabber and chatter all day and all night, but then, at nights, I had exceptionally good dreams and scary nightmares, so I did sleep. But tongue was untamed, uncontrolled and could cuss and swear so badly, it caused milk to blush.

God had one of his angels place a huge Bible diamond in the mire where I was. It was not deep in the mire, but where a small nine-year old girl would not just stumble upon it, but she would see it! Her sight was given to her. The prismatic colours healed her sight, her hearing, and banished her crippled body.

Light from this Bible diamond healed and enlightened her mind, even through the black, sticky tar-like mud

Light from this Bible diamond healed and enlightened her mind, even through the black, sticky tar-like mud. Then, unaware that angels in hoards, helped, she puffed and heaved and pulled until she had this huge Bible diamond up on the sand. Then, not knowing of the celestial help, she pushed until it was further up on dry land. Then, weary but excited beyond anything she could imagine, she watched as the mud fell off that huge Bible diamond, now so big that she could see that it was much larger than herself. It was growing, and glowing. It illuminated her whole world.

That first Bible diamond that I found both winded me and wounded me in a wonderful way. I sat, staring at this mountain of a diamond, speechless for the first time since I was about one year old. Then, tears welled up and spilled down my cheeks. Bitter tears. I could see my reflection in that Bible diamond. I was so dirty. Filthy. The black mire was only made flesh by the tear tracks, widening from the warmth of my tears of sorrow. Sorrow for self, but then, as the tears flooded to wash my whole face, a waterfall sprang from that mountainous Bible diamond and washed that black mire from my hair and my clothes and from my skin until it was cleaner than I could ever remember it. I wanted to hug that Bible diamond, I wanted to sing, I wanted to tell the world about that Bible diamond. I could see red crimson lights in that diamond, red like blood.

Written in that Bible diamond were three words. "Jesus loves you."

Having rarely felt even 'liked', but intensely unloved, this indeed was a mountainous Bible diamond. Even then it grew and the greatest Bible diamond of all showed its full name as I engraved the words into my memory, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, so that everyone who believes, shall not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16

My life was changed from that moment when I began the journey to climb that Bible diamond, discovering so much beauty, day after day.
