Chloe walked over and sat at the desk chair. Rhiley was apprehensive.

“What’s this about?” She raised her eyebrows, waiting.

“Well, there’s kind of been something I haven’t told you.”

“Spit it out, Chloe. I was just about to get in the shower.” She was agitated already. With so much going on, she didn’t have enough patience for her human friend’s secrets. They were more than likely not going to see each other again after Sunday.

“I guess the best way to start is by saying I know what you are.” Chloe shifted nervously.

            “Sweetie, I’m not a lesbian.”

“No! I mean, I know what you ARE. You, Tyler, everyone downstairs, Brendon, Cassidy. You’re wolves, like werewolves.”

Rhiley paled considerably, trying to go through all their conversations.

*Did I say something? How did she find out? She-*

“Rhiley, calm down! It wasn’t you. I’ve known for a while.”

“But how?” She started pacing the room.

“That’s another thing…. Brendon told me.”

“What?! I’m going to kill him! He barely knows you and he breaks out oldest law!” Rhiley was practically ripping her hair out.

“We actually know each other a lot better than we let on-“

“It doesn’t matter, Chloe. You don’t get how bad-“

“We’ve been together for almost 8 months. I’m his mate.” She must’ve known Rhiley wouldn’t believe her because she turned the inside of her wrist toward her. On the soft skin was a black marking. It looked tribal but also swirly and girly.

            “You can’t be serious.”

“I am. We played it off like we didn’t know each other because he said it’s never happened before like this. It’s really hard ignoring him all day in school.”

“So why tell me now?” Rhiley sat on her bed, drained from the overload of information.

“We heard you may be leaving.”

“We are leaving. Tyler and I. They need us back in PA.”

“Then we’re coming with you too.”

            “What?”

“We talked about it before I came here. Brendon is talking to Tyler right now.”

*”I don’t believe this.”* Rhiley spoke to Tyler.

*”Neither do I. Does she really have his mark?”*

*”Yup. Right on the inside of her wrist. It’s a bit girly though.”*

            *”What now?”*

            *”Give me a minute.”*

“Not that you wouldn’t be welcome in my pack but…. Why? Have you really thought about this?”

“Yes. I love him and he loves Tyler. He doesn’t want his best friend going there alone.”

            “We’re leaving Sunday, Chloe.”

“That’s fine. I’ll tell my parents we ran off to be together. They can’t do anything to stop us. I’m 18.”

“To be honest, I didn’t even think mating with a human was possible. I don’t know how well everyone will handle this back home. They’re already dealing with a lot of big changes.” Rhiley hastily continued when she saw how hurt Chloe was. “It’s not a bad thing but their old Alpha caused a lot of problems, all because he was so young. The power corrupted him and he couldn’t handle the pressure. Now an even younger Alpha couple is in charge and they bring a human along who happens to be mated with our friend. It’s just going to take some getting used to. Eventually it wont be a problem but don’t take it the wrong way if some don’t like you.”

Her eyes lit up. “I know, I know. Brendon told me it might be dangerous to tell anyone because of the hunters and whatnot. But now that everything happened here the other day, it might be more dangerous for us to stay.”

“I’m going to take a shower and think about all this.” Rhiley grabbed her clothes before Chloe could say anything else and left the room.

*”I’ll be over in about two hours. Put on something nice for later.”* Tyler wasn’t there but she knew he was smiling.

            *”What for?”*

*”You’re coming over for dinner to meet my parents.”*

He couldn’t be serious. Now was the worst time for this. She sighed and rested her head against the now closed bathroom door. First thing in the morning she finds out she has a mate and they’re running a whole pack. Then she finds out they’re leaving in less than a week to go back home. Barely an hour later she learns Brendon and Chloe are the first human/wolf mated couple in their history. Now she has to go meet Tyler’s parents for dinner. How did her life become so stressful?

Rhiley wandered back into her room with dripped hair to look for something to wear. Chloe was gone and she assumed Mags was still downstairs.

After looking through everything she owned, she realized her wardrobe was extremely casual. All she bought when she moved in was jeans, T-shirts and sweatpants. None of that seemed good enough.

Tyler and herself…. Well it was still a new thing, really new. It was a serious thing to meet his parents and she wasn’t going to go over there looking like a bum.

She threw on a random outfit and ran a brush through her hair quickly before heading downstairs. Only stopping at the entrance to the living room for a second, she said, “Meeting Tyler’s parents for dinner later. Going to the mall for something to wear.”

On her way out the front door, she heard Mags say a hasty goodbye and ran after Rhiley.

“Get in.” She told Mags as she started her Subaru. At this point, she was glad Mags had come home with her. What do you wear when you’re meeting your brand new mate’s parents for the first time and when you’re also stealing their only son away forever within the week?

They got back with barely enough time to get dressed. It may not happen often but Rhiley wasn’t so uncivilized that she didn’t wear dresses. This was one of those few situations. Mags picked out a nice white sundress that looked amazing. She got a pair of matching white sandals too.

As soon as she heard the doorbell, she dashed down the stairs and ran into it to stop. Before Marcus got there, she slipped out onto the front porch with Tyler.

His eyes roamed her body. It was new, seeing her in a dress and if it wasn’t for common decency he would take her right there. He ran a rough hand through his tossled hair and cleared his throat.

“Did you run here?” She asked. Her voice was lovely, especially when she said his name.

            *Focus!*

“Uh yeah…. I was hoping we could take your car.”

“Of course. Are you ready to-“ Marcus joined them on the front porch, staring at Tyler unhappily.
