Bianca
I sing to myself quietly as I do my history homework in my school's main corridor. I continue humming the song, listening to it as I do so.
Suddenly, I hear the noise of the door getting pushed open loudly. Frantically, a tall, extremely handsome guy comes in from the parking lot. As he walks over to me, I pause my music and take out my headphones. "Sorry, can you help me find the main office?" he asks.
I nod and say, "If you go straight and take a left, it's the first door on the left."
He smiles and says, "Thank you." He walks away, but at the very last second, I see him look back at me one last time.
No, do not fall in love with the hot guy, I think to myself. He's probably just some asshole who shuns losers like me... but then again, his voice was so endearing and genuine, and his smile lit up the whole room.
I quickly dismiss these thoughts and get back to humming and working. But at that point, I couldn't even focus on what I was doing. I proceeded to open my computer and browse Tumblr instead, being that I could barely look at my history worksheet.
Not even Tumblr could save me. So, I ended up writing, as I always do when I can't concentrate on anything else. I had been working on an intense adventure story, focused on a strong female hero who kicks the shit out of anyone that dares to hurt her.
But then, I hear familiar footsteps coming down the hallway. "You look lonely," I hear a male voice direct at me. I peer up and see the same person who asked me for directions only minutes before.
I just shrug and say, "It's okay." He shakes his head and takes a seat next to me.
I look over at him as he asks, "Do you like writing a lot?" I look at my computer screen quickly and close it when I realize that my writing was still up on the screen.
"S-sorry... I do like writing, but it's not that good," I stutter.
"I'm sure it's great," he says quietly. My face heats up slightly.
I look down at the floor in front of my crossed legs. "I don't know why you're talking to me. No one does," I sigh, eyes still focused on the dirty tile floor.
"I dunno, you just seemed kind of lonely and I wanted to chat," he responds.
I peer over at him again. "I'm Bianca, by the way," I tell him.
He smiles and says, "Ben." He pauses for a moment and says, "The reason I was trying to find the office is because I just moved here and I needed a schedule."
"Oh, so I'm assuming you're a junior or a senior since you must've driven here," I say.
He nods and says, "I'm a junior."
I smile and say, "I am too. But I can't drive yet."
"The only reason I can is because I was born in January," he explains.
"Oh. My birthday is in a week or two," I tell him.
"Happy almost birthday, then," he smiles. I thank him.
He takes out his schedule and says, "I wonder if we have any classes together." I take out mine and compare them.
Then I point out, "Yeah, we're in the same science and math classes. And we have lunch together."
He smiles again and says, "Cool."
"I should probably get going," Ben says after a moment of silence.
"Bye," I say, looking up at him as he rises.
"See ya," he smiles. As soon as he's out of sight, I smile too.

Stepping inside my dad's car, I can't stop thinking about Ben. I can't believe he was actually talking to me, I think to myself. People usually think I'm so unapproachable.
"How was your day, Bee?" my dad asks me.
"Pretty good," I reply.
"Anything exciting happen?" he follows up.
"Well..." I smile. He peers over at me curiously. "I might've made a new friend," I answer.
He smiles back and asks, "Really?" Knowing him, he probably thinks I'm bluffing, being that I'm extremely anti-social.
"Yes," I tell him.
"What's this friend's name?" he questions me.
"Ben," I say softly. He smirks. "I don't need your sass, dad," I laugh.
"I'm just curious about how this all happened," he replies, still smirking.
"Well, he just moved here and he wanted to get his schedule from the main office. So I had to give him directions. Then he just started chatting with me after he came back," I explain.
Of course, what I didn't mention was how cute I thought he was. Or how kind his smile was. Or the fact that I'm already crushing on a boy that I just met.
My dad and I keep discussing our days as we drive home. Once we pull into the garage, the two of us walk inside. As soon as I wander upstairs, I greet my younger siblings, one of whom was sick at home and the other who had a half day at her elementary school.
I enter my room, drop my belongings and pull my computer out of my bag. Opening it, I go online to see a Facebook notification. It said I had a friend request, which was very rare. The person's name was Benjamin Walsh.
Ben.
I quickly add him back. Smiling, I close Facebook and continue adding to the story I'm working on, encouraged by Ben's kind words from earlier. "I'm sure it's great." I make sure to put in my best effort.
His voice ran through my head for the rest of the night.
