The black gates opened revealing an overly excited Dalton who started barking when he saw another one traspassing 'his territory'.
Jaxon stared at me wide eyed. "You could have told me you had a beast in your house!"
"A beast? You mean sweet, innocent Dalton?" He barked and laid down for me to pet him. After kissing him on his head I climbed the steps to the porch and I rang the doorbell as I didn't have my keys with me. Meanwhile I observed Jaxon who seemed to be having a hard time to pass through Dalton who was standing between him and the door in a protective way.
"I think we need to change your definition of sweet and innocent." Insisted Jaxon with his shoulders in tension, and his palms extended towards Dalton.
"Wait. You're afraid of dogs?" Amusement obvious in my voice.
I mean seeing a guy like Jaxon all tattooed from head to toe with his piercings and his strong built being afraid of dogs was funnier than anyone would guess.
"Course I'm not!" He responded way too quickly. "Dogs love me and I love dogs, yours just seems to hate me! Specially his teeth." He murmured the last part.
While Dalton kept growling Paolo opened the door which automatically send a wave of a delicious smelling meal.
"Right in time Miss Williams!" Exclaimed Paolo.
"You know I don't like it when you call me that." He knew he could adress me by my name but he always told me he felt more professional the other way, though one day I caught him tasting the meal with his finger and I teased him about it all day long, or at least the hours he had left.
"I can smell you've been busy." I kind of complimented him.
"Young woman, I think the words you're looking for are: wow I appreciate your effort on preparing a meal I still don't know how to cook myself and you're the best chef/teacher I've ever met."
It still baffles me why he insisted on calling me Miss Williams but didn't bite his tongue when it came to flattering himself. Isn't that supposed to be the opposite of professionalism? Well, I wouldn't know. All I had to do in my family's manor was alternate every hour between sunbathing and studying in the pool house. Though I wouldn't really call it studying, more like memorizing.
I was never the straight A student but I was close to it. Despite not being as smart as some of my classmates, I had always had a good memory and that was more than enough to end up second of my age. The first one was for sure Christian Anthony Williams.
The incredibly smart guy.
Hazelnut hair.
Beautiful dark eyes.
Popular among both girls and boys.
And... my twin.
It only made sense that he was the favourite one to my parents. He got a car and I got Dalton. I must admit I was royally pissed at that moment but now I wouldn't change him for all the best cars in the world.
Paolo then noticed Jaxon who was still in the same spot. He asked me about him to which I answered shaking my head as to indicate him to drop it.
It wasn't as if I knew why he was here. I mean, I did invite him but I was still figuring out why would I do something like that. It wasn't as if we were friends or something. Or if there was even a slight chance to be friends or to be that other something.
Because maybe I was just crazy but I felt different when I was around him. Somehow I felt a bit stupid as if I had lived in a bubble all my life and living his reality was opening my eyes.
