song of the chapter - give me love by ed sheeran

-

every three days the orphanage has a day where anyone who was looking to adopt would come in and meet everyone. it was all by appointment though, and usually was for younger kids.

luke and ashton were the eldest, and were rarely even noticed, let alone being looked at for adoption. luke hated these days, and he usually just sat in this room and tried not to think about all of the happy kids getting adopted.

ashton hated seeing him like this, because the blonde definitely deserved more than this. he deserved to be adopted into a loving family and never have anything bad happen in his life. ashton knocked softly on luke's door. he heard a quiet 'come in' before opening the door just enough for him to get in.

luke was on his bed staring aimlessly at the wall in front of him. he didn't acknowledge the fact that ashton had entered the room, instead focusing on the plain whiteness of the wall. ashton sat next to him and kissed his shoulder before laying his head there.

'i love you, lukey' luke smiled a little bit as he felt tears welling in his blue eyes. he didn't want to cry this time around, he didn't think he needed to. he cries every other time, why not give it a rest?

'i love you too, ash' luke's voice cracked a little bit and he quickly wiped his eyes. ashton pouted and hugged the smaller boy tightly. luke let out a shaky breath before turning to face ashton.

'i'm okay' he gave a weak smile before pressing his lips to ashton's. ashton could feel dried tears on luke's face and he felt bad, luke didn't need all this sadness. as their lips were still touching, a knock was heard at the door. bothe boys frantically made it look like they weren't just kissing as james walked in the room with a couple, both looking around thirty. james gave the boys a look, as if to say 'why the hell are you in the same room right now?' but dismissed it.

'boys, this is mr. and mrs. anderson. they are looking to adopt' both boys seemed confused by all this, they were never even considered by adoptees.

'we are looking for kids who don't need all the babying' ashton nodded as he stood to introduce himself.

'i'm ashton, i'm fifteen' he shook both their hands before going back to luke's desk chair. luke looked nervously at ashton and then to james, who both made the gesture for him to talk. he bit his lip before shaking his head and moving farther away from everyone in the room. james sighed and shook his head, looking at the andersons.

'that's luke, he's sixteen. he, um, he's not a big people person' james gave both boys one more look before motioning the couple out of the room, closing the door behind them.

'i'm sorry' luke was repeatedly whispering this until ashton climbed up on the bed with him and wrapped his arms around him. luke felt stupid, the one time a family wants to adopt someone his age and he blows it. he started crying without even realizing it.

'baby, it's okay. you are okay' ashton was rubbing circles on the boys back, trying to get the poor boy to calm down. luke eventually stopped crying all together and sat up straight, looking ashton in the eyes.

'i want to go to bed now' and ashton knew luke was fed up with seeing people so he got up to leave, planting a kiss on lukes forehead before leaving the room for the day.
