I figured my thirst was under control. I used my newfound speed to run home. The lights were on, so I tried to be cautious. What time was it?

I was within easy hearing distance. It's better to be prepared, so I listened. I could hear muffled cries coming from inside. Mom.

I felt so terrible! I ran up to the door, and opened it. "Mom? Phil?" I called out. I needed to quickly calm down. Act normal I thought. Did I look ok? Do I look semi-normal? At least my head quit pounding as soon as I shut the door. To bad it wasn't cloudy outside. Stupid sun I thought.

I should've checked a freaking mirror before I left! We didn't need her questioning what was wrong with me? Did I even know for sure? But I do...

What other thing drinks blood? I was disgusted with myself. I heard someone move around, then a door was slammed open.

Mom came running out towards me with tears streaming down her face. "Bella!" She yelled with pain noticeable in her voice. "Where have you been? You were supposed to be with Martha and Bryan!"

Anger colored my tone as I spoke. "I was grabbed from behind."

"What?" she asked me.

"I was walking to their house. Someone grabbed me... They put something over my nose and mouth. I-I... Everything was dark! I was in a basement and couldn't leave!" I quickly came up with a story.

I knew very well James and Victoria would come for me if I spoke the truth. I could use this as an advantage, because mom was picking up the phone.

"No! What are you doing?" I asked hurriedly.

"Calling the police of course!" She replied simply.

"Mom, no!"

"Well why not? Honey, you were kidnapped!"

"I-it's ok! I don't know who it was, I never saw there face."

"Then what am I supposed to say as to why you suddenly appeared?"

"That I ran away to be with friends. I don't know! Come up with something? I'm going to my room."

"Do you want something to eat? I'll make you something, you're awfully skinny," mom commented.

Human food didn't really sound good to me. But moms face made me realize I did need to eat. For her anyways. I'll have to manage to choke it down.

"Yeah sure. But you might as well call them first," I told her referring to the police.

Mom agreed and re-picked up the phone while I walked to my room. My alarm clock said it was 6:43 A.M. Was mom not sleeping? I guess I did notice the dark circles under her eyes.

I grabbed my clothes and went into the bathroom. I took a shower, and felt so much better. That was nasty! How long was I gone? I'd have to ask mom.

I towel dried my hair, and quickly brushed it. Then I put on my clean clothes. That was the first time I noticed my appearance.

My dark hair had more noticeable highlights. I was even paler, but my eyes... That was scary. They were blood red! Mom must be terrified.

I could just pin it on the dark basement. I mean I hadn't seen the light for how long? I didn't know either.

When I walked back into my room, the clock said 6:47. Jeez that was quick! I really need to work on being slower. More human. Then I started laughing. I just couldn't stop! I was no longer human, but I still wanted to act it?

I heard mom hang up the phone in the kitchen, and start to pull pans out of the cupboards. I decided to sit at the table, and see what she was making.
