You exhaled as you stared at the degree you graduated with. Your parents stood behind you, their arms on your shoulder as they admired it with you. Four years had gone by, just like that.
Four years put to good use.
Four years...
without your best friend.
"Mother, father... Can we go back to Korea this summer? It's been so long since we've visited our relatives," you explained.
"I swear, you can read our minds. We were just talking about the trip and were about to ask you whether you would like to come. We can celebrate your graduation with our entire family!" Your parents exclaimed, laughing.
"So... yes?" You asked hopefully.
"Yes indeed! I'll book the tickets right away," your father said as he dashed into the study. You can't wait to finally see Seokjin on his two feet, along with his restored memories. You wondered how he has been doing.
The two of you haven't kept in touch since you forgot to give him your number when he got his new phone, and Seokjin, with his amnesia, wouldn't have remembered it. Thus, you were left with an empty feeling and a constant yearning for him.
I'm coming for you.
And today was the day you were waiting for.
Two months later, you stepped foot on South Korea's ground. You sniffed the foreign air that wasn't exactly new to you— you had lived here with your relatives for the majority of your life, after all. The air had a slightly burnt smell to it, a smell that you liked because it made you feel at home.
As you dragged your luggage to exit of the airport, a familiar car caught your eye.
"Uncle is picking us up?" You inquired excitedly.
"Yes, of course," your mother replied as she waved through the window and your uncle unlocked the car. He stepped out and you threw your arms around him as he walked around the car.
"Oh!" He exclaimed, smiling. "My favorite relative."
"Uncle! I've missed you so much!" You said, muffled. Your uncle stroked your head and gave it a few soft pats before pushing you away. "I missed you too."
"Hey brother! How have you been doing? Same to you, sis," his deep voice bellowed as he shook your father's hand strongly and gave him a quick hug. He patted your mother's shoulder and took her suitcase. "Let me get these for ya."
Your uncle was a big man in his 50's, older than your mother by a few years. He was fun and out-going, able to make you smile in any scenario. His loud, obnoxious laughter was contagious, in which whenever you heard it, you were reminded of Jin. You watched as his strong hands hauled your luggage into the trunk of his car, appalled for you could never even come close to him in strength.
The four of you took off to your uncle's house, where you would be staying. On the way there, he had asked you about your adventures in America, in which you didn't hesitate to tell him all about it. Getting your driver's license and your own car, and driving it— and almost crashing one time at that— and that you finally graduated from university.
"So, what brought you back here?" Your uncle asked.
"Well, to visit you guys after four years and to celebrate my achievement with you!" You beamed as your uncle chuckled.
"We've been missing you a ton, brother," your mother added.
And of course, to see Seokjin again.
As if he was reading your thoughts, he added, "Needless to say, your friend got discharged after his incident. He's doing great, and sometimes he even drops by to hang out and cook!"
Your eyes widened. "Really?"
