Chapter 2: Sleepyhead.

I’ve been very sleepy in our class which made my classmates wondered why I’m like that. I was so tired that I can’t even cope with our lessons. It was the unusual me.

“What’s happening to you Ka? You’ve been very tardy these past few days,” Myrtle asked.

“I’m very sorry Myrts, Kit and I were always on the phone that’s why I always feel sleepy,” I answered.

I saw a lonely face on her. She was wearing a fake smile while saying “Really?”. I can see her eyes full of tears because on their 3 year relationship, Kit hasn’t done that for her. He never stayed up late just to talk to her. I felt like I betrayed my best friend. What I felt is that I hurt her feelings. I’m her best friend but why am I the one letting her hurt that much. I couldn’t take how she reacted, how she faked her smiles. I was so confused. I wanted to shout aloud that there was nothing going on with us to make her feel alright.

“Myrtle, I love you so much. I just see him as a close friend. I don’t feel anything special for him. Please don’t be sad,” I said.

Myrtle smiled again and hugged me tight while saying:

“Please Ka, if he’s going to say he loves you, don’t love him back. Will you?” she said.

“Yes dear. As you wish. You know how much I love you right? I won’t let you get hurt Myrts. I love you,” I replied.

“I feel so blessed to have you Ka! Thank you so much!” she said.

Since that day, I was not answering Kit’s text messages and calls anymore. I love my best friend so much. I will not let someone hurt her.

On the other hand, I felt sad. I was missing him so much. I was used that after school, he would call and chat with me. I miss our joyous laughter and corny jokes. I just took a nap to forget the sadness that I was feeling. It was so cold, a cold night filled with sadness. I was about to delete his messages when I suddenly received a text message: “Why aren’t you answering my calls? I am missing you so much.”
