I explain everything to Miss Pauling. we stayed up late so she could hear me out on the stories. ones I was finished, it was already half past 1 in the morning.

(y/n): that's all I know.

Miss Pauling: it does add up. it must be him. oh god. the others don't know about this. what if medic approaches them in his normal form? he will kill them.

(y/n): we have to make a call!

I exclaim as I reach for the phone on the wall. but the black haired woman beside me grabs my wrist.

Miss Pauling: as I said earlier. it's dangerous. we might give away our location.

(y/n): but they have to know! otherwise, they will die.

Miss Pauling: I know. but we can't call them. we have to message them in another way.

she takes a device from her handbag. it kinda looks like a calculator, but way thicker and it has an antenna on top. She enters a code into the device.

(y/n): what's that?

miss Pauling: a communication device. I use it to talk to the administrator. you see, we work in a coded language. its similar to Morse code, but it works with numbers instead.

anyway, I will ask her to send a message.

she waits for a reply. not much later a few numbers appear on the screen.

Miss Pauling: she said she will send one. it only takes a few hours before they arrive.

(y/n): that's ... really clever. but memorizing all those codes, man that must be hard.

Miss Pauling: I know right. it's very efficient. but its not that hard to learn those codes. over the years it starts to become easier with the day.

now come. you should get some sleep.

(y/n): okay. good night.

I head towards my room. a few hours later I woke up when I heard a knock on the door. I rub my eyes and head downstairs. I have my gun in hand as I make my way through the hall. but ones I reach the front door, I see miss Pauling talking to a tall man in a black trenchcoat. he wears a matching hat and sunglasses.

she records a video message. as soon as she is done the man stops the recording. he opens his jacket and places the recorded tape in a VHS payer around his chest before he buttons the coat up again. he nods as miss Pauling tells him to find the red team. he glances at me before he makes his leave through the front door and just like that, the man disappeared as soon as he arrived.

Miss Pauling: oh hey (y/n). I didn't see you there. did the knocking wake you?

(y/n): yeah. it's no big deal. so is this normal? I mean I never saw a guy with a miny tv and a VHS player strapped to his chest. I feel like I am in some sort of sci-fi movie.

Miss Pauling: yes. I've sent a few recorded messages like these before. so did the administrator. but the red team mostly killed the messengers because they didn't trust them. hehe. let's hope that won't happen again.

The administrator isn't too pleased if the men can't return the equipment.

(y/n): I see why. all that equipment

it isn't cheap. anyway. I'm going back to bed. I'll see you in the morning.

I yawn as I make my way upstairs. miss pauling stays in the living room. she holds the tiny device in her hand and waits for her boss to reply.

Timeskip.

Zhanna, scouts mother and I sip from our coffee mugs. we enjoy a quiet moment until miss Pauling storms into the room.

miss Pauling: I have good news! the messenger found our team. they got the message and will send us a reply with instructions.

(y/n): oh thank goodness they are okay.

Zhanna: did you expect anything else? my brother is very strong. he will not loose. he can kill bear with bare hands!

(y/n): well. I know that. but medic is quite powerful, you know that.

Zhanna: yeah. but we will still crush him!

(y/n): no! you can't crush him!

SMom: after everything he did to you guys I think its more than fair to teach him a lesson or two.

(y/n): I think we should reason with him and ask why he did it...

Miss Pauling: are you out of your mind, (y/n)?! he tried to kill us before. there is no way he will listen to what we have to say.

I stay silent and lower my head.

Miss Pauling: look. I know its hard to believe but there is no other way.

she sighs.

Miss Pauling: remember when you first started to work for us? you weren't as strong as you are right now. remember how you were shaking in a corner, blood on your hands with your first pistol in hand. you were in shock of what you had done to the blu soldier. I found you and told you that the only rule on the battlefield is simple.in here, its kill or be killed.

(y/n): I suppose you are right....

Zhanna: question. if (y/n) was afraid to kill then how did she join Red?

Miss Pauling: the administrator had an eye on her for a while. she could tell that (y/n) has great potential. even if it meant that she had a lot to learn. I won't go in detail what happened to her and how she got fired at her job. that's all private matter. but that's why we hired her. because she wanted to have (y/n) in the team.

Zhanna: I see. well, you've come a long way. I admire that. you are a strong woman and show men that we can be just as strong as them, if not stronger.

I nod in determination.

(y/n): not all men think like that. the Red team never treated me like a lesser individual. they always treated me as an equal. with respect and kindness. just as I treath them. But why would medic turn against me? I never did anything to offend him. Out of all the people, I was the one that respected him the most.

Miss Pauling: no idea. But perhaps we shouldn't think too much about it. it won't solve anything when we keep asking why. we rather think about the how and if so we can be prepared later.

Zhanna: she is right. we should await our team's message first and regroup. then we can look forward to crushing creatures!

--------

A day passed. the doorbell rings. Scouts mom opens the door with a friendly smile but it soon fades once she sees the man in the trenchcoat. she is about to scream when miss Pauling walks up to her.

Miss Pauling: do you have news?

the mysterious man nods. he opens his coat and presses the play button on the tv. Looks like Engie recorded the message but once he was about to speak, scout scooted in front of him. he waves at the camera.

Scout: hi ma! I'm doing fine!

SMom: oh my baby! I'm glad to hear he is Alright.

She sighs in relief.

Dell pushes scout out of the way. he stands behind the engineer as he starts to talk.

Engineer: Hello ya'll. we all made it out as you can tell. we are currently at Mountain lab. since it's not too far away I suggest we travel to the local library and meet up there at 10 AM.

With that said the message ends. Miss Pauling pays the messenger and so he leaves once she tells him she has nothing to report back. she closes the door.

Miss Pauling: Zhanna! (y/n)! we got a reply!

We rushed towards the others. Zhanna held a rubber duck in her hand for some reason. maybe she was snooping around in the bathroom. but Miss Pauling didn't pay much attention to it. neither did I.

Miss Pauling: we should get packing. at 10 we have to be at the library.
