Laughing thunder [#Wattys 2018]

Chapter 21: We need parachutes

          "Hey chicks, it's finally here isn't it the day you all finally fly aren't you guys excited!" Everyone cheered around the room with some of us being so excited that our powers began acting up.

"Dude you alright you're sparking up everything, calm down!" CJ said chuckling while his hair began floating because of my static.

'Oh, don't you dare tell me to calm down you've nearly melted through your chair"

"What?! I was sure I was fine!"

"pfft, I could give you some rain their buddy"

"Oh, ha. ha, Thomas, but please?"

"Sure" I went to create a small rain cloud but it suddenly expanded incredibly fast and was about to shoot lightning but I calmed it before it could.

"What the heck?"

"Oh when your wings are maturing your body and soul does as well that also means that your powers are volatile so until this is over don't use them" Ms. Aquilla filled us in

"I could have used that knowledge a little bit ago! Anyway, how are you feeling Noel?" I looked beside me and saw Noel looking giddy with excitement.

"I'm great!" her voice blared forcing us to hold our ears.

"Try to calm your voice box!" CJ cried

"I'm sorry I just can't CONTROL my sound," she said clasping her mouth

"Don't worry about it, all of our ears are used to it by now" she nodded keeping her mouth closed

"Come on class follow me first come first fly!" I speeded over to her nearly impaling into the wall with my powers short circulating again.

"Wooo your excited Di Angelo!"

"Can't help it my electricity is increasing beyond my control"

"Pfft you should have seen Mr. Watts he was worse he was moving around like a pinball machine, well anyway let's get this show underway! Are you ready students?"

"Yes!"

'I thought so, time to fly!"

We all waked up a large number of stairs to Ms. Aquila it's a right of passage but the staircase to the top of the school is over a hundred stories. When we finally made it to the roof she asked us all to stay in our lines and asked me to walk forward.

"So how do we do this you start us off with some wind or what?"

"No none of those but we will do this" she made her way behind me as I looked over the edge as we sat above the clouds until I felt myself get literally kicked off of the building free falling.

"Ahhhh! if I survive this I will burn you to ashes for this!"

"Sure fly back up first!" she called after me. She was right I would have to fly first as I began thinking back to all of our hellish lessons but for some reason I found nothing.

"Really brain you could have picked any other moment except for now to decide to forget everything!" As I continued to fall I began breaking through the clouds as I went to control them to slow me down but I felt runes appear sealing off my powers. "Oh, come on you've got to be kidding me!"

I kept free falling as I made my way closer to the ground where I saw vultures flying around in a circle most likely waiting for a snack. I continued falling until I saw the ground getting too close for comfort until I saw a vision of the two birds my wings are from a hawk and eagle birds of prey and with this I felt a new determination arise as I pulled my wing back and right before I hit the ground I swung them down launching myself into the air hearing the sound barrier as well as the runes breaking as I continued to shoot towards the sky, the clouds wrapped around me sparking to life with a large thundrstorm as I felt my wings geting struck by lightning as I felt my wing change with my flying becoming smoother and graceful until I finally made it back up to the school with a large thunderclap as the storm followed me.
