Chapter 27

Previously on R5's Little Sister
With one long breath she closed her eyes and the heart rate monitor went flatlined. She was gone. Her pain was over, but ours was just beginning.
Now onto the story.
Riley's POV
After about 30 secs after the beeping started a nurse came in and unhooked the machine. She covered Ella with the sheet and looked at us sympathetically. "I'm sorry for your loss girls." She said as she walked out.

"Come on girls. Let's go." I said taking them out of the room. As soon as we left the room the kids went to my siblings and I went the other way so they wouldn't see me break. I found a secluded place and immediately started crying. I felt arms around me and I looked up and saw Shawn.

"It's okay princess." He said soothingly.

"She was the closest thing I've had to a mom since I left California! Now she's gone!" I cried.

"I know Ri. Everything is going to be alright. I promise." I continue crying and he rubbed my back whispering comforting words until I calmed down. When I finally pulled myself together we went to rejoin the group. The girls we're still holding onto my siblings for dear life. Abby was with Riker, Sara with Rocky, Bree with Ross, Ally and Maya were with Rydellington, and Ryland was holding Lily with one arm and his other was wrapped around Grace. Wait what? Ugh I'll figure that one out later. I cleared my throat and everyone looked up at me. 

"Alright guys I know this is hard but we need to get to the palace. We have things that need to be sorted out. Kono are the cars here?" She nodded. "Alright then. Everyone get your stuff together and head downstairs." They began gathering their things and I walked to Rydel. "She's probably going to need a diaper change. I can take her if you can go with them?"

"Sure. Meet us downstairs?" Rydel asked handing Maya to me.  I nodded. I grabbed Maya's bag and headed off to the restroom as everyone else went to the elevator.

Shawn's POV
As Riley walked away with Maya I couldn't help but notice how good she was with kids. It's like she was born to to be a mom. I finally snapped out of my thoughts when the elevator arrived. We stepped in and when we finally got to the bottom Kono lead us to the cars. I was helping put the kids in the car when I heard Kono and Grace talking.

"Is that...?"

"Oh shit."

"He's already back?!" Grace asked. She sounded angry and surprised

"It was only a year he was sentenced to. It's been over that."

"Damn it. I wish I could send that guy straight to hell."

Curious, I turned to see what they were talking about and I saw Riley arguing with some guy. She was shielding Maya from him, almost as if she was protecting her. Eventually the argument ended and Riley walked over to us. "Ri, baby, who was that guy? Are you okay?"

"Yeah Shawn, I'm okay. He's just someone I used to know." There was something different in her voice. It sounded like she was afraid of him. I gave her a look. "Babe I'm fine. I promise, I'll explain later. We need to get to the palace." I wasn't happy about it, but hesitantly I nodded giving in. We all loaded up in the cars and left to the palace. The entire ride there was silent and I understood why, we were worried. We had no idea what was going to happen to those little girls. As soon as we got there Riley and the girls went to talk to a social worker in Steve's office. The rest of us were all anxiously waited outside the office.

"What do you think is going to happen to those girls?" Roxane asked breaking the silence.

"I don't know." Grace said softly. "Every case is different. We'll just have to wait and see."
