My hands flew to my eyes to try and stop an onslaught of tears coming out. So many emotions were trying to show themselves at once. I was speechless and all I could get out was sobs.

There on my living room floor was Jake Taylor, my best friend, on his knees with a golden retriever stood beside him. The dog was stepping in place with anticipation to get free of its leash. It's tail wagged wildly with its mouth open and tongue hanging out.

A smile was plastered across Jake's face. Brennen was standing next to me trying to get me to go closer to the dog.

"C'mon, (N/N)! She's wants to meet you!" Brennen encouraged as he put his hand on my back to gently push me closer.

I sat down on my butt and scooted towards the golden dog. Once I was in reach of her, she put her paws on my knees and showered my face in kisses.

"Her names Misty. We rescued her at the SpcaLA," Jake said. I listened to Jake as I pet her.

"Why did you guys get me a dog?" I asked, still baffled at the fact that there was a dog sitting in front of me.

Jake and Brennen looked at each other, trying to decide who would speak next.

"We know you have been going through... a lot, to say the least. And I know it's hard for you to open up about things and that makes it hard for us to comfort you so we thought getting you a dog would help," Jake explained. I watched both of them as Jake explained and I could see the worry in their eyes. There was something else in Brennen's eyes as he looked at me but I couldn't figure out what it was.

I caught myself staring at him and I reluctantly pulled my gaze back onto Misty. She was still sat in front of me with her tail waging wildly and a look of curiosity and adoration in her eyes.

"I've also seen how happy you are around animals. I mean the first time you saw Kobe was the widest I've seen you smile in a long time," Jake chuckled. I looked at him with a smile on lips and a few stray tears escaped my eyes again.

Jake then sat up again and pulled me towards him muttering "Aw come here," in the process. I wrapped my arms around him and sighed.

"Thank you so much. You're too nice to me," I whisper laughed.

"You're welcome (Y/N). It's the least we can do," he replies and pulls away. He stands up and holds his hand out for me to hoist myself up with. Once on my feet again, I turn to look at both Brennen and Jake. The smile grows even wider on my face as look back and forth between the boys and Misty who was now sitting at my side, her tail sweeping my hard wood floors.

My eyes land on the boys again I can't help but to let out an ecstatic squeal. I throw my arms around Jake and Brennen again and a string of 'thank you's leave my lips.

I pull myself off of them and I crouch down again in front of my dog. It was so weird to say that to myself again. I never thought I'd have a dog of my own again.
