The Three

Chapter 5

I stood there stiff as stone watching Oak pump on Mints chest up and down. I swallowed back a yowl of fear and pain combined. I kept on watching my eyes glued to the spot. "I have to get out of here!" I thought.  I started moving toward the entrance slowly still watching my litter mates body, then I started to run my eyes watering from the pain. Once I got into through the entrance I looked in awe how beautiful and big the forest was. I can't believe we've been in camp all this time without realizing what lay outside. Excitement surged through me to go exploring with my litter mates out here! My heart dropped when I remembered Mints limp body in the camp. I started running, I didn't know where I was going but I had to leave, I have to run away so I could get rid of all this pain! I heard paw steps follow me, " leave me alone!" I screeched

" Pepper it's me Feather" she yowled

I stopped and turned around with a snarl "Go away!" Once I saw her there was pain in her eyes, my eyes softened.

" Where are you going, Pepper"

" I'm running away..." I told her

" Why?"

" because I can't stand the pain of seeing my sister dead"

Feather looked at me

" I can't stop you can I"

" No you can't" I mewed quietly

She Pushed her head under my chin and started whimpering

" I'll miss you! I'll tell the others that I couldn't find you! Make sure to put yourself in water so your scent will go away." 

" I'll miss you too, maybe I'll come back someday"

" don't say that then I'll be waiting for you to return" she sobbed

I backed away tears welling up in my eyes. I licked her ear,

"Goodbye till we meet again my sister"

" Goodbye my dear brother Pepper"

Just like that I backed away and started running into the darkness.
