Emma knocked on the door three loud times of his house, more excited for this date than others. It was hot in Orlando, as per usual, but she would brave weather much hotter than this for him. It was all for him. However, her shock was evident when his mom came to the door instead of him. Still, she asked for him, hoping he just wasn't ready for their day out together yet.
Love is leaving...
Emma walked back down the steps of the beautiful house, her heart as heavy as the steps her combat boots took on the pavement. The Air Force? It couldn't be. He hated flying. There was no way. She must've been lying to her. She never did like her son dating her.
Like a fool, I'm blankly standing here...
The more Emma thought about all the old times shared together, the more she convinced herself that what she had been told was true. He was in the Air Force. And had left without a word. Not a single goodbye. Just gone. His room had been cleared of everything. Every picture, every blanket, every book. It was empty. Except for one picture. It was of her and him sitting outside a small restaurant near the beach. Too caught up in each other to take in the view around them. They looked at the other like the world just existed for them and that their two best friends weren't sitting right there with them, slightly disgusted.
Emma had snuck the picture out in her hoodie pocket, not ready to let go. She didn't know if she ever would. As she took one last look back at the house, her heart sunk further into the pit of her stomach. She'd given up and changed everything for him. What was she to do now?
