Emily only remembered a few attack moves from training at the shelter. Her hands were shaking as Mara took them and squeezed them, filling them with her last hope and her fate.

"Just get in there and confused them, definitely steal a key, I can keep you invisible for a minute or so," she whispered.

"I'm terrified," Lav muttered, seeming to read Emily's mind.

"You have no reason to be, Lavender," Mara hissed, "Emily is the one who could die a horrible death."

"That's why I'm afraid, maybe?"

"Since when have you cared about her?"

"Guys," Emily snapped, "I think we have more pressing matters at hand."

Lavender giggled. "You sound like Mara." When Mara scowled darkly, she looked down and winced.

Emily stood up, her head nearly hitting the ceiling, and Mara stood up behind her. She laughed at her undignified expression; their leader had to bend over, and she was in the taller part of their dome.

"Who wants to get Vincent and Grayson?" Mara asked with a smirk. Lav and Emily stared at each other, both not moving a muscle.

"What if they're..." Lavender trailed off. "Never mind. I don't want to."

"Can't you get into their minds, Mara? Is that one of your unlimited powers?" Emily asked, sounding more accusing than she meant to. Mara noticed and gave her a questioning look; Emily just shrugged, not knowing how to respond.

She stretched out an arm to their direction and closed her eyes as they rolled back into her skull. Emily backed up a step, her body against the bars, not wanting to get in the way of whatever Mara was doing.

Mara opened her eyes- they were white and glowing- and opened her mouth, words forming with her lips but never making any sound. Emily and Lavender shared a look of fear and confusion.

She silently laughed, a smirk growing on her lips, and closed her eyes again, thrusting her hand through the air and making Gray and Vincent visible again. Emily sighed in relief; they were both fully clothed and sitting up. Vincent was fixing his hair, and Grayson's cheeks were a deep shade of scarlet.

"Vincent, button your fly," Mara snickered, hoisting Gray up and fixing his hair for him. Vincent's face turned pink and he turned around.

When he turned back, Grayson laid his head on his chest. Vincent's eyes brimmed with tears and he kissed the top of Grayson's head.

"Okay, guys, enough PDA, please," Lavender gagged. "We have to not die."

"Yeah, that would be pretty fun," Emily smiled nervously. "How do I get out, though?"

"You're the smallest one here. And you look like a twig. Just slide through the bars."

"The spaces aren't that wide," Vincent pointed out, "and if she's stuck, they're going to kill her." His emphasis on the word 'going' was unsettling, at best.

"Mara, you're taller, but you have no body weight, you should do it," Lav hissed, "don't force Emily to. You're more powerful, anyway."

"Hey!" Emily shouted, and Grayson winced.

"It's true, I'm sorry," she shrugged.

"Emily, we don't have much time. That means no change of plans-" she eyed Lavender angrily- "and no backing out. Go."

Emily shuddered. "When I get halfway out of the cage-"

"Invisibility, I know, and I've changed the plans," Mara announced. Lavender's eyes dimmed greatly. "Vincent and Grayson cloaked an entire building. They can cloak you as like, a pillar or something."
