[A/N: So, I've heard from most people that Emily's power is not useless. I agree, but I feel as if I should explain how it's classified as useless.
Any power that exhausts the host is considered useless by the government. They do not get to decide when and how long they use the power. Not to mention, Emily's power is one of the weaker ones in the world where people can become mermaids at will, and where people can bring back the dead. Her power is also deadly to her if she uses it for too long.
So, you see, her power is classified as useless. That doesn't mean she can't use it for some good.]
Emily watched the light dance in Emma's eyes as she laughed with Yasmine and finally nodded in agreement. Lavender breathed out a sigh of relief, taking her arm and pulling her into the lobby.
"Emily, you aren't... dating Emma, are you?" she asked cautiously.
Emily snorted. "Of course not. She's a bit out of my league."
"Yes, she is," Lavender growled lowly, her glowing eyes dimming. Her eyes widened and glowed again, and she covered her mouth as Emily's cheeks burned with hurt. "I'm... I'm sorry. I don't know what just happened to me," she laughed nervously.
"She just asked me because she didn't have a date. She said that no one that she wanted asked her," Emily shrugged, ignoring her.
Anger flashed across Lav's eyes. They became dark again. "I asked her," she scowled.
"O-oh..." Emily put her hands up as Lavender backed her up against the wall, her eyes still dark, and her pupils growing to destroy her purple irises.
Lavender pressed a sharp fingernail into her cheek and sliced through her soft skin easily. Emily whimpered, clutching the wall as Lav brought her finger down and licked the blood off. "Just try and take her," she growled, but then her eyes suddenly went back to normal, glowing and happy. "Hey- what happened to your cheek? Do you need a bandage? Grayson collects them."
Emily slid away from her and ran back to the doors, freezing when she saw Emma leaning against the doorway. She grabbed Emily's hand and yanked her to stand behind her, eyeing Lavender dangerously. "You said you wouldn't leave me," she said out of the corner of her mouth, backing her up. Lavender looked so innocent, but she saw her eyes narrow at Emily as the door slammed shut.
"Okay, now, let's forget about her," Emma whispered, so just Emily could hear her. "Let's dance. I wanna show you off."
Emma pulled her onto the dance floor and placed a hand on her waist. Emily just followed Emma's moves; she had never danced before.
"Emma," she began, and Emma looked her straight in her eyes for the first time. She took a minute to catch her breath again. "Lavender told me that she asked you first. What's the real reason you asked me?"
"She has a skin disease."
"You're lying, Emma," Emily giggled.
Emma smirked. "Am I?" She didn't break eye contact. "Don't ask questions that you know the answers to, Emily. It's a waste of breath."
"Emma..," Emily whispered again.
"You just love saying my name, don't you?" Emma smiled, showing her sharp canine teeth behind her full lips. Emily watched her smile, feeling something stir inside of her chest.
She couldn't stop smiling herself as Emma twirled her and brought her closer than ever. Emily finally breathed out and relaxed, letting Emma take the full lead until her feet were dead. They finally sat.
"I'll go get some water, don't go anywhere," Emma said, wiping the cut on her cheek and walking over to the snack tables.
Mara sat down across from her, and Emily pulled her guard up. "Having fun?" she asked, like nothing had ever happened.
