[A/N: There's this really great goat farm that sells ice cream and chocolate honey near where I live. Someday I just want to take all my friends there and show them what heaven truly is.]
Emily crawled numbly to the bars, where Vincent laid limp, and pressed her face up against them. Confusion and fear twisted her guts so harshly, she felt like she was about to vomit.
People in chairs surrounded the cage. Rain was closest to Emily, her grey, angry eyes staring straight ahead and through Emily as if she was air.
"Rain," she whimpered, and Rain's face turned scarlet.
The other people gave Rain a questionable look, and another girl whispered, "You know those freaks?"
"They're not freaks," she spat, "they're people." Rain eyed the brown-haired woman and scowled. "I've heard three of them are from the elder families, so I recommend you shut up."
The girl sat back and furrowed her eyebrows. "Aren't you from the eld-"
"Shut. Up."
"Okay."
Vincent rolled over, his eyes blurry, and squinted at Emily. "Grayson?"
She shook her head and looked around. Only Mara, Lavender, and Vincent were there with her.
"He's not here."
Vincent dropped his head again, his bottom lip trembling.
"He's always gone," he slurred. "I miss him. He's pretty."
"I know, honey," Lavender sighed, crawling up behind Emily and wrapping her arm around her shoulders. She leaned in and whispered, "The drugs they gave us aren't sitting right with him," her hot breath tickling her ear.
"You won't have to miss him for long," a tired voice muttered. All of them, except for Mara, who was still sleeping (or pretending to sleep), turned to see Elvira slowly opening the door and leading a pale, blurry figure in.
Grayson.
Vincent's face lit up, and he let out a squeal that made Emily's ears ring. Grayson ran inside, falling on his knees and hugging him tightly, kissing his neck and slowly making his way to his lips. Emily looked away, her face burning, and Lavender laughed at her quietly.
"You're adorable," she said, a soft smile playing on her lips.
Emily scowled. "No, I'm not, stop looking at me like that-"
The cage door slammed closed again and Emily whimpered, pressing her forehead against her knees.
"You were saying?" Lav smirked.
"How is being scared adorable?"
"I don't know, love, I'm still groggy from the drugs and everything you do is adorable right now."
"Your conversations are giving me a headache," Mara snapped, and everything went silent again.
Except for the sounds of Vincent and Grayson making out.
"God, Vincent, he's not a milkshake, stop slurping," Lavender gagged. Vincent tore away from his boyfriend with raw lips and flashed a lopsided smile at her.
