Chapter 1: A Foul-Fairytale Beginning

I remember the great days when dad used to let me sit in his lap, in front of the grand fireplace, and just read to me my favorite story, Cinderella. Then he would end the story with lots of kisses and assuring words that one day I would find my mate, who would love me forever like the Prince did to Cinderella.

“Just like you love mommy?” I would ask my father again, who would pause for a long time before nodding and answer back to me.

            “Yes, just like your mother.”

I never wonder why my father would always pause when I ask him that question. In my little eight-year old mind, all that occupy my mind was that I would find someone like my dad, who love my mom. My mother, who died when I young. I don’t really remember her except one memory of her washing dishes. Everything was vague but I could clearly see her back to me as she hum a happy tune. But as I grew older, I finally realize the look in my father’s eyes, it was guilt.

I couldn’t pin his guilt to anything. That is, until I turn fourteen. I remember that horrible day very well in my mind. My father had insisted that I go out to eat with him that day and I should have knew better than not to suspect anything.

15 years ago:

I was suspicious something was up, dad had ask the waitress to seat us in one of the middle tables, where it could seat six instead of our usual booth. He sat me beside him and I would smell the nervousness in his face as he turn to face me. I could laugh my butt off, my father, who was the alpha of our pack, was sweating in his pants as he sat beside me.

“Eon honey, remember our promise?” I look at my father and cock my head to the side.

“Sure dad, we said that we would be understanding and support each other when mom died.”

“Okay honey I want you to be understanding and-.” I turn away from dad and look at the woman standing in front of our table who cut my dad off.

“Oh Jeff she is prettier than the picture.” A very pregnant red-hair lady said to my father. When she notice the blank face I gave her, she reach out and extended a hand to me.

“I’m Annie, I can’t wait until you meet my two girls.” She chip happily as I look at her extended hand, her face before turning to look at my father. Who by the wait was sweating his pants off.

“Dad, who is-.” Again I was cut off by the red-head lady.

“Girls hurry up.” She wave for two girls who was headed towards my table. One was about the same age as me, she was red-headed as her mother with fair skin. A high nose with freckles. The other one was older, a blond with similar features of her mother. Quickly the red-headed woman pull the two girls in front of my dad and me and smile widely.

“This is Michelle.” She nodded towards the one the same age as me. “And this is Jenny.” Nodding towards the blond.

I gave each of the unknown people one look and quickly turn to my dad. Her was shaking his head at the red-haired lady.

“Dad, what is this about?” There was a gasp from the lady.

“Jeff, you didn’t tell her yet.” I turn to take one finally look at the lady and turn to give my dad the evil stare.
