Chapter 2: A Human Start
My father must have found me in the woods and brought me back. Because I remember running until I trip on a dead tree and decided to lay there. I laid in my bed and notice that it was afternoon already. Figures, everyone probably did not want to see my face. Yet, I didn’t move from my bed and let the events that happen sink in. Tears involuntarily started to flow and a heavy weight fell on my chest as I confirm that my relationship with Josh was over. No one ever chooses another over their mate once they’ve been linked.
I cover my face with one of my pillows as I sob into it, not wanting anyone to see me crying. ‘It’s alright, there will be another. Your mate will come.’ Comforted myself as I cried, trying to make me believe in the future.
“Enough Dad! I’ve had enough.” I yelled at my father as I torn the tribal necklace from my neck and ran up the stairs to my room.
“Eon you have to understand, for some, finding your mate is not easy. Maybe next year.”
I wasn’t listening to my father, it has been two years since Michelle had stolen Josh from me and the thought was still bitter in my mind. Since then I have cease to talk to either of them, both of them didn’t seem to mind because they were now happily a couple. Bastards, I thought and then remembering my own failures to find my mate for the third time in a row made me curse them more under my breath.
“Honey can you come out and talk about this?”
“Talk about what dad, I said I’ve had enough. There won’t be a next time.” I had made my mind and there was no way my father was going to change it. There was pause then softly my father’s voice return.
“What do you mean ‘there won’t be a next time’?” I didn’t really know what to answer to my father because I didn’t really have an answer. I had just said the words in the heat of the moment. I slump down beside my bed, knowing full well that there was no future for me in the pack if I didn’t find my mate. I choose to ignore my father and let his mind wonder to what my words have meant. After a long while of quietness I figure my father had left and laid on my bed.
Thinking of a future without a mate was grim but at this rate, the chances were high. All the plans in life had come to end before my eyes today when I was again left without a mate. I had planned to find my mate and stick it to Josh and Michelle for betraying me. Now that plan was out the window as today everyone was probably laughing at me for being the only one to never find their mate after a third linkage ceremony. There was knock on my door. I ignore it, figuring it was my father.
“Eon?” I stood up when I register the voice as my friend Christine. Unlike all my other friends who abandon me after hearing of my failures, Christine always stood by my side. I think Christine stuck with me because she was like me, although she found her mate, he had refused her. That bastard, at least he found his mate and yet he refuse the sweet nature Christine. I open the door and the shy creature walked in.
I was short in comparison to Christine who was a full five-feet nine, but her height didn’t do much for her since she was so timid.
“I heard what happened today, I’m sorry.” Christine tried to console me and I sigh and dragged her to the bed with me.
“It’s alright Christine, maybe there just isn’t a mate out there for me.” Sad as it seem, I felt more sad for Christine. I maybe without a mate and bitter towards Josh and Michelle but Christine’s case was worse. To find you mate and never be with him was like you dead inside already.
