CHAPTER ONE

MOVING

A pair of best friends sit underneath a tall and leafy tree on a bench idly chatting. The wind blows lightly making the leaves and branches shake above the two. They laugh and share a few stories, just enjoying the cool breeze and time together.

Gwendolyn Ackerman and Jughead Jones seem like an odd combination to most of the people around them. How could such a shy and bubbly girl be such good friends with the weird outcast? Simple, they share many similar traits- even more than they do with the rest of their friends. They both share a pessimistic and somewhat dark sense of humor, a passion for writing, and even their ties to the Southside Serpents. He knows more about her than anyone else does since she trusts him more than anyone else and he feels the same. She typically always has a smile on her face and a glow to her, but he's seen her in her worst moments.

"Juggie, I have to move back to the Southside. Griffin's paycheck isn't able to support the house payment here," Gwendolyn sighs. Her bright aquamarine eyes dim and the corners of her lips dip into a frown. "I have so many memories in that place. It's where we became best friends and where mom... never mind."

Jughead lifts his hand and awkwardly pats her back. She lets out a weak laugh at his awful attempt at comfort. He's never been the best at it. When he takes his hand back and shifts to look at her she raises her head and meets his gaze, "Hey, you're going to be fine. I'll be there with you when we go to Southside High. C'mon, at least you won't have Reggie hitting on you or be pestered by Cheryl." He raises his eyebrows awaiting her response and she just smiles at him and shakes her head lightly. "There she is!"

"You're the best, Jug. I don't know what I'd do without you," Gwen tells the male beside her. She tucks her long hair behind her ear and fiddles with the string on her windbreaker. Serious topics were never her strong suit.

He ruffles her light blonde hair and holds his head high at her comment, "I know. I'm amazing."

"Don't get too cocky there," the teenage girl shoves his arm with unexpected force and laughs loudly with him when he falls off the bench a few curly pieces of hair spilling from underneath his signature beanie. While he gets off the ground the Sherlock theme ringtone alerts the girl of a call. She pulls out her phone and answers it, a little annoyed by the abruptness.

"Meet me at Pop's as soon as possible," the voice belonging to Veronica explains before hanging up. It didn't sound like there was an emergency, just a very demanding girl telling Gwendolyn to meet her. She looks at her phone oddly, still a bit taken back by Lodge's attitude. It's Veronica, though, it's expected for her to be so forward. Jughead looks at her with curiosity and she shrugs in response.

"I don't know what just happened," Gwendolyn blurts out. Jughead sits up and looks at her questioningly when she throws her messenger bag, containing necessary items like her notebook, over her shoulder and stands up. Her straight blonde hair spills down her back and a mischievous glimmer is in her eyes. She sarcastically says, "Veronica demanded that I go to Pop's 'as soon as possible.' So I guess I shouldn't keep her waiting or she might have my head."
