CHAPTER FIVE
✧ BULLDOGS VS SERPENTS ✧School goes by like any other day for Gwen; agonizingly slow as she attempts to stay off the radar. She spends her lunch sifting through pages after pages in order to find someway to decipher the code the Black Hood left or contemplating everything she knows about him as if she stepped into the world of Criminal Minds. As fun as it can be to her it's also quite tiring.
After the scene she made before with Sweet Pea he's been eyeing her more and more lately. The girl never notices his dark chocolate eyes gazing at her in class or at lunch, but Toni has and she's become slightly protective over her new friend. He's one of her best friends, but she knows that he has an affinity for flings and doesn't want the girl to be one of them. Gwendolyn is a kind and understanding person with a tendency to be naive, and Toni doesn't want her to be used and then dumped by Sweet Pea like all girls he sets eyes on.
Toni looks at the girl beside her, who is currently pulling her long blonde hair into a ponytail out of her eyes and not looking away from the open book with worn edges. The Serpent glances at the tall teen sitting at another table joking and talking with Fangs and then back to her before deciding on her next words, "So, has Sweet Pea talked to you at all?"
"No... why?" Gwen asks, clearly confused. She's tried avoiding him as much as possible after what happened. She's scared that she embarrassed herself and that he might not like her, which is actually quite the opposite of how he feels. She also doesn't reach out to different people often, which is why she has so little close friends and definitely no boyfriends or girlfriends. She's never been in a relationship before, but she's been attracted to several people before. Specifically Chuck-until she realized what an asshole he is-and even a fleeting one on Cheryl, as well as a few others at Riverdale High. Sweet Pea did happen to catch her eye. He's attractive and bold, the type of personality she's usually attracted to.
"Nothing. Just wondering," Toni replies. Gwen nods and goes back to reading after taking a slight glance towards the referred to boy. This action didn't go unnoticed and Toni bit her lip in thought, Maybe she'd be good for him...

Rain pours down outside, the sky misty and dark. The rumble of thunder calms the teen as she sits in a booth at Pop's. She sips on a chocolate milkshake as she re-reads the second Harry Potter book. The series is one of her favorites and she started re-reading them to cope with stress that's been weighing on her recently. It works well, and the storm outside makes the perfect calming mixture.
Her phone vibrates indicating an incoming call. She picks it up and checks who it's from before answering; Veronica. Immediately she's met with a somewhat frantic and frustrated voice, "Gwen, thank goodness. I don't know what I'm doing- I just know that you're the only person that won't freak out on me and I'm really worried about Archie and you might be able to help talk sense into him. It's just that I- I don't know what's going on anymore."
