CHAPTER THREE

  ✧ QUALITY FRIENDS

The wind blows through the teen's long blonde hair as she rides on the back of Toni Topaz's motorcycle. She's never been on one before and the feeling gives her a rush. A big smile graces her soft features as she holds onto Toni tightly. The stars in the night sky zoom by her vision in a bright haze as the girl laughs in delight. The girl with beautiful golden skin finds her new friend's reaction amusing and it brings a smile of her own, "Calm down there, Bubbles."

When the Ackerman's apartment complex comes into sight Gwen begins to calm herself down a little. Toni stops in front of the building Gwen and her brother live in and kicks her bike stand down with her boot. The pink-haired girl takes the helmet that the other girl hands her. She wears a bright smile and her hair is a complete mess, blonde locks all astray from the wind and helmet.

"That was amazing!" Gwen exclaims and laughs. "I've never rode a motorcycle before... if you couldn't already tell." She gives an exaggerated shrug and head tilt to emphasize the sarcasm of her last statement.

Toni smirks at her and laughs at her new friend. She notices the door to the girl's apartment open to reveal Griffin, so she takes that as her cue to leave, "I'm glad you enjoyed it. Take care of yourself, blondie."

The loud rumble of the motorcycle engine meets Gwen's ears as she fumbles with her bag. She quickly walks to her apartment to meet her brother, who's leaning on the frame of the doorway. He gives her a smile as she walks into the small apartment. Immediately she throws her bag by the door and flops onto the old blue couch they've had for what seems like forever.

"So, how was your day?" Griffin asks his little sister. He begins to put popcorn in the microwave while he waits for her answer.

"Horrible, as always," Gwen responds with a lighthearted tone. She tries not to dwell on the anxiety that came with her experience, since it's always something she deals with. That's why she takes medication, and normally it's something she doesn't have to worry about too much because of the meds, but going to a new school after moving to another part of town took a bit of a toll on her. "I met a few nice people, like Toni who was the one that brought me home. She's helping Jug and me with the school paper."

Griffin looks back at her with a relieved look. He was really worried about her, but she seems to be taking the situation pretty well. "Well, that's good. I like her, she seems like a good kid."

"She's really cool. I think Jug likes her too, even though he's being stubborn about the whole Serpent thing. I don't know why he's acting like that, but I guess that's his choice..." Gwendolyn pauses for a moment before realizing something. "Hey! We should have a movie night. We haven't had one in forever."

"Already ahead of you," Griffin teases as he puts the bowl of popcorn on the coffee table before turning Criminal Minds on the TV. Gwen does a victory dance when she sees one of her favorite shows come on, which makes the blonde male chuckle. Usually her brother puts some action movie on, and while she likes to hang out with him, they're not her favorite to watch, but Griffin wanted to treat his sister tonight even if it's just something small. They sit on the couch while stuffing popcorn in their face, and Loki's snuggled on Gwen's lap.

Today Gwendolyn decides to take a visit to Jughead's trailer. She gets ready for the day, a band t-shirt and blacks jeans like usual, before she heads out. His place is only about a five minute walk, so she leaves a note telling Griffin where she's going since he likes to sleep in as much as he can before work. She also doesn't want him to stop her from walking in the streets without someone else with her.

She plans for her and Jughead to hangout, watch a movie, and she'd show him what Betty and Veronica gifted her. The walk is quick and she gets through the park to his trailer in no time. Her blonde hair sways behind her back as she sleepwalks and she closes in on the door and knocks. When the dark-haired boy opens the door his face has scattered cuts and bruises littering his face. The girl is taken aback by his battered appearance, and to say the least, she's pissed. Her protective nature comes out once again and she wants the perpetrator's blood. His blue eyes meet her own and he already knows she's upset even before she yells out, "What the hell happened?"

Gwen pushes past him, but he doesn't follow when he sees Betty and Toni walking up to them. The short girl is already finding the first aid kit and all that she needs to clean the cuts and fix them up, so she doesn't notice the two girls making their way inside. When she finds everything she comes out to see Betty looking at her boyfriend worriedly, so Gwen gives the girl with the high ponytail the items so that she can do it.

When everyone settles in, Betty is the first to break the silence, "Can't you just take a day off?"

"It's not that bad," Jughead starts and looks into his girlfriend's green eyes and smiles a bit. "Just some cuts and bruises."

"I told you that motorcycle was risky, Jug. You promised me you were always gonna wear a helmet," Betty explains to him. Toni and Gwen look at each other, both knowing that it wasn't some motorcycle accident.

Betty keeps on cleaning his cuts as Jughead lamely excuses, "It was just around the block. Don't blame me, all right? Blame the pothole."

"I thought you were gonna say that you got jumped by those Creepies..." Betty trails off before Toni interrupts.

"Ghoulies," Toni corrects her while stepping up and condescendingly looks at Jughead. "But, no, the Serpents won't allow that. They got Jughead's back, even though he's not a member. It's just family loyalty. "

Gwen lightly puts her hand on Toni's shoulder and looks at Jughead with a raised brow. Betty notices the tension and gets up, "Alright, well... I've gotta go to school, try and fix this mess with Kevin. Toni, Gwen, will you keep an eye on him for me?"

Toni salutes at Betty while Gwen smiles and nods, "All over it."

They all watch the girl leave, her ponytail swishing while she exits. Toni crosses her arms and looks at Jughead with a look that reads "really?" Gwen rolls her eyes at the Jones boy and sighs exaggeratedly before taking a seat beside him.

The girl pats the boy's shoulder with her small, pale hand. She faces him with an amused yet pitiful look on her face, "You poor, poor soul. Did that bike crash make you lose your sense?"

"Don't tell Betty. She doesn't need to know," Jughead shakes his head and pleads with the two girls. Gwen let's out an exasperated laugh, "You don't lie to a chick like that, and especially not Betty."

"We warned you about the Ghoulies. I think you'll take them a lot more seriously now," Toni looks down at Jughead while the blonde looks at him with an eyebrow raised. He nods.

"Yeah. I will now."

The three decided to hang out for a while in the small and sparsely decorated trailer. They laughed and got to know each other some more, Gwen let her shyness go as she talked with the two. Toni sat right next to the girl and slung her arm around her shoulder as they looked at the calligraphy set the blonde girl was showing them. Jughead decides to turn the tv on and watch a movie with his friends.

Notes: So, it's been a while... heh. I have no excuse other than I'm a lazy ass and that's also why this is so short. I felt like I had to do something, so I'm sorry if it's not very good. Anyway, tell me what you think! Thank you to everyone for reading!
