  Chapter 2: The New Kid

I wake up on my battered old couch with a sore neck and my arm still asleep. It was dark, unsurprisingly, since no light could get in. I slowly rise off the couch stretching as I went but my arm stayed stiff.

I grumbled as I opened up all of the stainless steel shutters. Light blinded me for a few seconds after I had just opened the first shutter. I was squinting as I opened up the other ones.

I was standing at an odd angle when i looked at myself in the mirror. I always look like this after a night on the couch which is every full moon. After stumbling to the bathroom a nice long shower loosens my muscles up.

I change into my usual style of outfit, a t-shirt, jeans and a hoodie. I grab my shoulder bag before stopping at the door to shove my converse on my feet. Out the door I go towards my black four wheel drive. Soon I’m heading toward the dreaded place known as school.

At school nobody pays much attention to me like they usually do. I am classed as an emo because of my jet black hair and my anti-social life. But really my jet black hair is natural and I refuse to hang out with many people because of my annoying angelic-ness.

Anyway I also have pale ice blue eyes and I am 5’9". I’m average but most people my age are a lot shorter. My hair is super long and reaches my butt and it is straight.

After about two minutes of wandering around aimlessly my best friend bounces up to me. Most people cannot believe I have a best friend, or that she just so happens to be the sportiest person I know.

Casey is the same age as me and has dark brown hair and brown eyes. She just so happens to be a werewolf which is why her height of 6'2" doesn’t surprise me very much. She has lots of muscles from her involvement in sport and her werewolf heritage.

Casey plays nearly every sport I know of and she can out run an average football player any day. She plays on my soccer team on Saturday mornings and then on Sunday we head down to the beach for beach volleyball. I am not as uninvolved as people think I am.

“Hey Ash,” She says in her peppy kind of way.

“Hey Case,” I reply trying to match her tone.

She looks a little exhausted from last night’s change but she can handle it. All werewolves black out when they change, so they don’t remember a thing.

“So how was last night?” She asks nervously. She always worries I will get hurt by one, but she and I both know I will freeze one before it hurts me.

“I was fine. Apart from falling asleep on the couch and getting a sore back again, I am absolutely fine,” I reassure her with a smile.

She laughs at my comment about the couch thing. She loves to sleep on couches where as I don’t like waking up with a sore back and neck.

Some people over on the field yell for Case to go with them. She gives me a puppy dog face, which by the way werewolves cannot pull off very well, and I shoo her off to have fun.

I go back to wandering around aimlessly. At my school there are a few paranormals, all of which don’t associate with many others. I spot a few vampires and steer clear of them entirely, ending up back at the car park.

Something catches my eye immediately. A super hot guy is leaning up against the main building. He has sandy brown hair and piercing deep blue eyes. He is at least 6'4" and has plenty of muscles which you can see through his tight black shirt. He wears a smirk upon his lips as he watches a bunch of cheerleaders in miniskirts walk by. He is obviously new because I haven’t seen him before. He is paranormal. I can’t tell what he is but I know for sure he is not a plain paranormal. By that I mean he is either a hybrid, a mix breed or a mutt. I can tell because with the plain paranormals you can easily tell what they are.
